Aamir Khan will not sign up any movies for at least the end of 2010 and he has made a confirmation about it. So, the next Aamir movie with another producer will be only in 2011 or 2012. He said he wont act as he wants to concentrate and complete his three home productions including one directed by his wife Kiran Rao. The three movies are Peepli Live (starring Raghuvir Yadav and Naseeruddin Shah), Delhi Belly (starring Imran Khan, Kunal Roy Kapur, Poorna Jagannathan and Shenaz Treasurywala) and his wife's movie Dhobi Ghaat (Aamir Khan and Prateik Babbar). All the three movies will be released in 2010 itself as Aamir will give his time to all these projects. The first in line is Peepli Live and the promos are already starting to come out. I could not find the promos anywhere apart from the official website of the movie. Even the youtube promos are removed for copyright infringement. The official website of the movie is: http://www.akpfilms.com/peeplilive/index.html The most surprising thing I found is that when went to Bollywood Hungama which is the top Bollywood website then I saw that Peepli Live has already reached 3rd position in top 100 movies by pageviews this week behind just Veer and My Name is Khan. The promos are not available even on Bollywood Hungama and the film also has a small starcast including many debutants but its seems Aamir Khan brand is working very well. Anyways the movie promos look like it will be another great movie. The movie is based on famer suicides as per the website. The synopsis of the movie from the official website is:

Natha a poor farmer from Peepli village in the heart of rural India is about to lose his plot of land due to an unpaid government loan. A quick fix to the problem is the very same government’s program that aids the families of indebted farmers who have committed suicide. As a means of survival Farmer Natha can choose to die!!! His brother is happy to push him towards this unique ‘honor’ but Natha is reluctant. Local elections are around the corner and what might’ve been another unnoticed event turns into a ‘cause celebré’ with everyone wanting a piece of the action. Political bigwigs, high-ranking bureaucrats, local henchmen and the ever-zealous media descend upon sleepy Peepli to stake their claim. The question on everyone’s lips - “Will he or Won’t he?†As the mania escalates what will be the fate of Farmer Natha; nobody seems to care how he really feels?

The movie has already been selected for special screening at Sundance Film Festival 2010 in US (never heard of it before). Like the promos and hope it will be a good movie. Films like TAARE ZAMEEN PAR and 3 IDIOTS took pot shots at the education system in India and PEEPLI [LIVE], directed by Anusha Rizvi, is a tongue-in-cheek satire on the farmers' suicides and the role of vote-hungry politicians and the over-enthusiastic, TRP-seeking desperate electronic media jostling for eyeballs. Come to think of it, the concept [farmers' suicides] would instinctively translate into a serious, thought-provoking film. But PEEPLI [LIVE] takes a grim and solemn issue, turns it into a satire, garnishes it with populist sentiment and makes a far greater impact than a mere documentary, had it tackled the burning issue. In fact, like all Aamir Khan films, PEEPLI [LIVE] marries realism with a winning box-office formula most brilliantly. Write your own movie review of PEEPLI [Live] A sad fact of our society is that bad news attracts instant attention. Although very real, it creates a world full of vivid characters and incidents and keeps the viewer engrossed throughout. First-time director Anusha Rizvi handles the subject material like a veteran. Her script is tight and witty and her handling of a difficult subject deserves kudos. What really sets the film apart is that it is unlike a typical Bollywood film. In fact, you can't draw parallels with any film, past or present. And that's what goes in favour of this film, since virgin subjects handled with utmost sensitivity and maturity is the order of the day. Even the finale is most appropriate and absolutely befitting the content of the film. In a nutshell, Anusha scores a sixer in her debut. The music, composed by multiple artists, is Indian to the core and borrows heavily from folk music. The hugely popular - 'Mehangayee Daayan' - is the pick of the lot, without doubt. Cinematography is appropriate. Dialogue, laced with expletives, are truly fantastic and most importantly, real. Manikpuri is brilliant as Natha. Raghubir Yadav shines as the opportunist brother. Malaika Shenoy [as the television reporter] is exceptional. Shalini Vatsa [as Natha's wife] is outstanding. Ditto for Farrukh Jaffer [Natha's bed-ridden mother]. In fact, the constant tu-tu-main-main between the saas-bahu is thoroughly enjoyable. Nawazuddin Siddiqui [as Rakesh, the local journalist] is natural. Vishal Sharma [as Kumar Deepak, the rival journalist] is top notch. Naseeruddin Shah is first-rate as the conniving, shrewd politician. The remaining cast - there're lots of actors in the film - pitch in believable performances. On the whole, PEEPLI [LIVE] is sure to ride initially on the strength and credibility of its iconic actor/producer Aamir Khan and once that is achieved, the powerful content is sure to speak for itself. PEEPLI [LIVE] is a film that would not only appeal to Indians, but is sure to reach out to audiences beyond India. Simply brilliant! 4 1/2 stars

Peepli Live already recovered its cost before releasing....they just released satellite rights for the movie for 100 million rupees ... Aamir khan is not only a good actor but a shrewd businessman as well

Yup know that .. anyways it was expected to easily sell for 10 crore in satellite rights ... even Udaan etc. are now selling for 5 crores and so an Aamir produced movie was easily going for 10 crores for sure .. they also must have made money from the music sales as the music is also doing very well especially songs like "Mehengaai Dayein" and "Desh Mera". It is going to be super hit if not a blockbuster and you can take my words on that .. the film will take great opening being an Aamir movie and then it will continue its success due to good story and content and continue for several weeks .. film pandits are acclaiming it as a totally different kind of story for Bollywood and are already hyping it like anything with 4-5 stars nearly everywhere

Officially the worst movie I went to.. I am a biggg Amir fan but seriously the movie was streched beyond limits..repetitive.. Amir lost my respect..Everyone who came out of theatre was quite shocked with the whole movie.. 1.5/5

This is the best movie I have seen in last 15-20 years. Can't remember such a black comedy which makes you laugh as well as cry at the same time if you are sensitive enough. It shows the disconnect between the city and village and how the well educated people living in city fail to understand the pain the villagers are going through. Not only that, they show how the poor farmers are exploited by political pawns like Thakur and all that is shown in quite a comical way, leaving it on the audience sensitivity get the real meaning of all all. Along with this all the media ruckus which has been the butt of so many jokes in many movies now. But it also highlights why the newschannels do it and why do they take such events to petty heights. And the ending!! Wow! It was so so touching, especially if you could understand the pain of a farmer, a poor villagers. It is an absolutely fantastic movie and I plan to watch it again, this time taking my son too so that he doesn't disconnect himself with the real issues the country has. I must see that the human sensitivity reamains alive in my next generation too. Hats off to Amir Khan for raising such a sensitive issue in this fashion. It is a unique film every Indian must watch!!

After reading the reviews and the comments in this thread, it seems that the movie is somewhat similar to "well done Abba" . I saw it few weeks ago and liked it. I generally like art movies ( non- masala movies), you should watch it as well if you like watching simple movies ..

I can say that as I've seen that movie also. It was making fun of the Indian system. Peepli Live shows the disconnect in the mind set of city of village people. How one is unable to understand the life, the problems, the pains that the other goes through despite living in the same country, same state, maybe same district as well. And the style of letting you know all that is through comedy. It really shook me up.
