The Dark Horse Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 too many southies in the team after Cheeka became chief selector :P This is the Indian team my friend, not the Naarth Indian team.
Gunner_Mania Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 I like Badri. Every Indian, regardless of the region likes the guy. What I hate is that there is a South overkill ! Talking about alternatives, here are some- M.VIJAY - Can be replaced by Aakash Chopra, if he's done being unlucky. S.TYAGI - Irfan Pathan KKD - Can be replaced by Robin Uthappa or Che Pujara or Jaffer bhai A.MITHUN - Pradeep Sangwan (Low pace, wily customer) but I'd like to see Mithun if he IS that fast, although Dinda is faster R.ASHVIN - Piyush Chawla is a better bowler than him, BY MILES. S.BADRINATH - Comes in my team. Please tell me you were joking. Robin Uthappa - Wouldn't that be another Southie? Sudeep Tyagi - Doesn't play FC for South Zone.

jusarrived Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 I am just joking .. dont take it to heart .. but frankly speaking the number of new southies have increased significantly after Cheeka became chief selector Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra and Kerela are southie .. rest most can be considered Norhties .. Easties anyways dont get selected and nowadays westies are also decreasing :P yeah , may be cos most of these players picked have performed in domestic ? unlike Rohit sharma or Saha or tyagi from other zones . you guys are conveniently forgetting ,more than half of the top 10 run getters/wicket takers this season are from Kar or TN this season , some of them are bound to get selected !!
achilles Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 He got clobbered into oblivion and you want to bring him back? Are you trying to suggest that Ashwin is a better pick than Chawla? If yes, you should be the next Indian selector :two_thumbs_up: Please tell me you were joking. Robin Uthappa - Wouldn't that be another Southie? Sudeep Tyagi - Doesn't play FC for South Zone. Aakash Chopra was the Best Opener for the Indian team a few yrs. back. Robin is a good player. Lets not get parochial coz I have said that Badri deserves his spot, which I wouldn't have if I was anti-South Zone. The only reason Sudeep figures in my post is coz it was first spoken here and responded here.

You are talking about giving a chance to a 32 year old over an 25 year old.
teacup Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 Are you trying to suggest that Ashwin is a better pick than Chawla? We won't know until he gets a chance, right? The selectors are probably betting on him to deliver 10 overs economically and score a few runs down the order. I think it is not too difficult to outperform Chawla on those two counts. What do you think?
Sooda Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 I like Badri. Every Indian, regardless of the region likes the guy. What I hate is that there is a South overkill ! S.BADRINATH - Comes in my team. This is ONE DAY Cricket squad we are talking about. And International One Day cricket at that That rules out Jaffer and Pujara. Jaffer has had his chance, and he is a good bat, but not test class. Akash has possibly been unlucky over the last few years, particularly when the selectors opted for WJ/DK at the top (though they did largely a fine job) but is a bit old now and his time has gone. Vijay hasnt done too much wrong in the few tests he has been given and even in the loss to SA he hung around for good spell in the 2nd dig. He has been one of the most consistent openers in India over the last two seasons he deserves a spot. vvslaxman pointed out a little higher up in this thread, DKK is a good ODI bat -good runner, agressive, versatile and unorthodox. Robin Uthappa could be a good ODI cricketer, again has been tried and found out. He has , Ive read, worked on those weaknesses but again- how good has he been in the domestic ltd overs matches.. im not sure tbh. Sangwan hasnt quite fulfilled the promise he showed as a u19 cricketer, which is a shame but time is on his side. I think he had a good first season but has not been quite so hot recently...Mithun was the highest wkt taker in FC cricket last season!! Dinda was picked based on his IPL performances, I dont think he has done that much even in FC cricket. I agree that Piyush > Ashwin, surely a better wicket taking option. But I dont think the selectors trust that he has got enough variety yet. Certainly his leg break wasnt as good as it could be a few seasons ago, when he did play for us. Ashwin could have been given an outing today Id like to see Irfan in the mix too :(( Sudeep has been doing ok in FC cricket though, he deserves a go.
The Dark Horse Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 If Manish Pandey had been selected instead of Rohit Sharma would you say it was zonal bias? May be thats the reason he was not selected.
thevortex Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Achilles - there is simply no way that all those players deserve to be booted out. Do you not see any promise in Murali Vijay? And Dinesh Karthik is a burgeoning talent, make no mistake. He frustrates me so with his inconsistency behind the wicket. If he can get it right, believe me, he can do Indian cricket a great service - of keeping the captain on his toes all the time. Competition will bring out the best and that will work out well for our team. I dont see Srikkanth as being biased in any way. In fact you should come have a talk with people down south. Until recently almost everybody was having a go at Srikkanth for not investing confidence in any South Indian cricketer :). I agree that somebody like a Shikar Dhawan or a Manish Pandey, even a Cheteshwar Pujara must be nurtured. We are not really thinking of life and times sans Sachin, Dravid and Laxman. And Sehwag too is not getting younger. He is already 30. Actually the other contender who has scored big runs in the domestic scene is also a Southie - Abhinav Mukund. It is high time we stepped out of regional bias as fans. But yes, that can only happen when the regional selectors concept is thrown out.
vvvslaxman Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 TN has reached final now. Their batting line up is possibly the best going around in India. Their bowling sucks big time though.
teacup Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 TN has reached final now. Their batting line up is possibly the best going around in India. Their bowling sucks big time though. TN's bowling attack is not as bad you make it out to be. They are not the best bowling lineup in the domestic circuit but certainly not the worst either. In the List A format they are actually good.
flamy Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 :hysterical::hysterical: It is still useless(flamy :finger:). The two players from south are KKD and Sree. KKD is there because UV is injured. Sree is a waste of place in ODIs and probably just should focus on tests. :hahaha: :hahaha: hey! :((
