Aussie's undefeated Summer : due to weak Opposition??

Everybody down under and all those clowns like Ian Chappell, Tony Greig are singing praises about how Australia was back in form and was undefeated all summer. They have played good cricket but common there was no opposition from both team which visited them this summer. Aussies never had any challenges from both visiting teams and yet no one seems to say the visiting team were so bad that these wins must be looked in different point of view all together. They are going gaga over Aussie wins. When Aussies win it is due their superior play alone and it has nothing to do with fact that teams they played this summer were despicable. When the Aussies lost the test series in India in 2008 ,they were lamenting on how weak Aussie bowling attack was due to injuries.but when they won the odi series in India they started singing praises of how well Aussie domestic system works to keep churning out great players to have great depth. So when you lose you blame it on injuries but when you win you say how great your team is in spite of injuries. Tony Greig in his audio show when India became no1 after beating SriLanka who are far better team than both Pakistan and West Indies was implying how India won was more due to the fact Srilanka played poorly than how India were far superior to them,India won that test series after being outplayed by Srilanka in the first test and people conveniently forget that fact and attribute India's win more to the fact Srilanka were poor.He even was saying it would be interesting to see how India will fare against resurgent Aussies who were in top form.

Hell yeah its because of a weak opposition, Pakistan were handing victories to Aus. They have a good bowling attack, but give them a bit of tap and they'll all look mediocre again. Batting line up is still quite fragile. They have played some good cricket, but they shouldn't get carried away. I hate these Aussie ex-cricketers, when India went to number 1 in the rankings, they were nitpicking everything, but Aus have a clean sweep and they can't see the most obvious thing, the opposition was weak

But you think we would whitewash them? Don't think so. That is where Aussies stand out. Other teams just take their foot of the gas and ease up. That is where we have to improve a lot.
We did 5-0 to england last time they played and 4-1 to srilanka who are far more devastating than either team Aussies played this summer, yes it was problem earlier with India to take gas of pedal but I think under Dhoni they want to win every game. Regards to aussies neither Pakistan or west indies gave them any fight. when they were close matches neither team knew how to win.

Well you wouldn't expect weak teams like West Indies and Pakistan to win series against the Aussies in Australia, so no big deal if they won all the series, India and South Africa would have done the same, but you might have expected poyzz and WI to win one or two games (especially in the T20).

In tests? should have won atleast 2-0 in NZ

Its partly due to weak opposition and mostly due all-round Aussie professionalism. Any other team would have probably lost the Sydney test and at least one of the T20s. But sheer thumping nature of their ODI wins, both over Pakistan and West Indies is cause for great concern, especially if you're an opposition fan. Most ODIs these days go right down to the wire, but the Aussies won all their matches easily, which should give us an indication of how their comprehensive superiority in those conditions. Australia is well truly making a strong statement to the rest of the international cricketing community through their performance this summer.

^Well Sree i even think Pakistan awarded them with some easy winz' date=' Sydney Test and the T20, which probably even Bangladesh(if not ordinary) would have won[/quote'] Yes, Sydney should have been different, but not many teams would have chased 130 on THAT Melbourne pitch, against THAT brand of express bowling. Frankly, it was surprising Pakistan even came that close. That was one of the fastest pitch in recent times and the Aussies had THREE bowlers hurtling down projectiles at 150 kph.

Agree, but with Steven Smith bowling, he wasnt steaming in, they could have targettted him as they needed just over 5 an over with 5 wickets in hand. That was a massive collapse, and no team would have scripted it better tha nPakistan. Its as if a thirsty man has got the glass of water on his lips, feeling for it and in the end what he sees is that the glass has slipped out of his hand :D. Same happened with Pakistan

Not in the Test matches. Their performances were patchy despite playing teams ranked 7 and 8 at home. In the limited overs stuff, yes - but by winning 6-1 in England, unbeaten on way to winning Champions Trophy and then 4-2 in India, they had already shown their ODI dominance.

Not entirely. Yes, the opposition was fairly weak, but Australians are known to be ruthless in the fact that they don't let the opposition any breathing space once they have them on the mat. That is the huge difference between India and Australia. In test matches, India is content to win by a margin of one whereas Australia look to win every match. In ODIs, India are getting better but they still will gift a few matches away. Also, one must note that Aussies won all one-day matches despite rotating their players around. Credit must be given where its due and Aussies really played well to remain unbeaten!

Not entirely, we still played something around 18 games, so to not get defeated in just one of them is impressive. I know the opposition wern't the best, but you still have to give credit for not taking the footm off the gas when it could have been quite easy to do. I don't think it's fair to take away from the successful summer we have had by pointing at the opposition. You can only play what is in front of you and we did that with aplomb.
