saneindian Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 The batting line up looks a little suspect. Play them away from Asia, and this team won't put up more than 300 on board. Their batting averages away from Asia Anwar- 38 Hanif- 42 Zaheer - 38 Miandad- 46 Inzi- 45 Imran - 34 Latif- 21 Bowling does look very strong though.Plenty of variety and they can play the same attack everywhere in the world (and if bottle caps were to be officially named as an accepted cricketing equipment, they will do even better)
gaurav92 Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 Well no Current Pakis in the best squad, and they are were T20 champs :dontknow:
vvvslaxman Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 The 4 bowlers they have in this list were part of the team when Tendulkar made his debut against Pakistan.
Deleted_User_1 Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 Pak All time XI From CI. No surprises, there is no current player in the team.... http://www.cricinfo.com/pakistan/content/current/story/460532.html Pak All Time XI:Hanif Mohammad, Saeed Anwar, Zaheer Abbas, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Javed Miandad, Imran Khan, Wasim Bari, Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhtar, Abdul Qadir, Waqar Younis. I must say that while Pak team currently is substandard, this is a mighty fine team and can go toe-to-toe with any all time XI from any country. The pace attack could be one of the best if not the best. I think this all time XI could beat an all time Indian team simply because of the superior pace attack. Now if you call me a Paki, then :finger:
satyam1729 Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 That Pak team couldn't beat Indian team of 1989 because of pace attack
Pak_Forever Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 Awesome dream team. That team can beat any team on any given day. I might just replace Bari with Moin, rest looks perfectly perfect.
satyam1729 Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 Awesome dream team. That team can beat any team on any given day. I might just replace Bari with Moin' date=' rest looks perfectly perfect.[/quote'] That team won't score more than 250 outside sub-continent against good attacks,
S.Bond Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 That team won't score more than 250 outside sub-continent against good attacks' date='[/quote'] But won't let the opposition score even 125....
satyam1729 Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 But won't let the opposition score even 125.... This is why Pak has never won a series in OZ, SA,WI.
SJS50 Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 My twelve. . . Hanif Mohammad Saeed Anwar Zaheer Abbas Javed Miandad Inzamam ul Haq Mushtaq Mohammad Imran Khan Wasim Bari Wasim Akram Abdul Qadir Waqar Younis Fazal Mehmood Not bad. Ten of those are in the Jury's XI. The difference is in the choice of wicket keepers. I prefer Bari but Rashid Latif is a very good choice too.
vvvslaxman Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Awesome dream team. That team can beat any team on any given day. I might just replace Bari with Moin' date= rest looks perfectly perfect. And lose to any team on a given day :cantstop:
Sooda Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Ok, the big question If these guys were to play an all time India team... who would emerge victorious Depends a lot on where they play.. Maybe a three match series with one test on a raging minefield, one on a seaming/swinging wicket and finally one on a 'true' or maybe even outright flat patta...
Ahmed Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 And lose to any team on a given day :cantstop: Well that is Pakistan for you:winky: That is why people love watching Pakistan play.
zen Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 My Pak all time X1 would be something like the one below: - Hanif - Anwar - Abbas - Miandad - Inzi - Imran - WK (Bari/Latif/Moin) - Akram - Saqlain - Waqar - Akthar If the batting needs to be strengthned, one can bring in a batsman (like MoYo) in place of Akthar It is more or less, what I had picked some time ago. Though my concern is, will this team lose as many consecutive games to AT11 of teams like Aus, WI, etc as the current Pak test team?
SJS50 Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 No real surprises in that team aside from latif being keeper ahead of Bari maybe... If they had chosen Bari it would have been the side I selected. :-) Coming to the other question you posed about who would win between this side and the best of India. I would say that on almost all surfaces except maybe the crumbling dusty slow spinning tracks, Pakistan this Pakistan side would beat India with an attack consisting of Imran, Waqar, Wasim, Fazal and Qadir. India's best hopes would be to keep piling up big scores and then hope for a Pakistani collapse but the first step in that (piling up massive totals) against this line up isn't a piece of cake. I would say played on neutral venues and with neutral umpires, Pakistan would be firm favourites in the longer version of the game even against a side as good as . . . Gavaskar Sehwag Dravid Tendulkar Hazare Mankad/Bedi (if you dont mind a longer tail) Kapil Engineer Prasanna Nissar Chandrashekhar Pakistan does look a weaker batting side but that is not really correct. I think India has an edge in batting but with Gavaskar to match Hanif at the top of the order, the Pakistani middle order is very strong with Zaheer, Miandad and Inzy. These three guys have a fabulous record and the first two were particularly devastating against India and its spinners. The pace bowling, of course swings it India's way. Just as an aside, there was a thread on CW about the lack of low scores in today's cricket. In checking out the veracity of that statement I was reminded of the amazing fact that India have never ever bowled out a side in a Test match for under 75 runs while Pakistan has done so on five occasions. Besides England and Australia (who have played so much more and in the bowler friendly conditions of the turn of the 19th century) only West Indies have done this more often - six times. This is not completely relevant but it is a commentary on the relative strengths of the two bowling attacks over the last sixty years.
The Outsider Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 ^ Too many spinners in that Indian side for my linking, SJS. Specially when you consider the opponent is Pakistan. I would play Mankad over Bedi from your side, have Srinath over Prasanna and perhaps replace Chandra with Kumble given Kumble's extremely good record against Pakistan and in particular Inzamam. Delving a bit more into the fantasy world, I can imagine Kumble being very effective against Miandad as well, given the latter's propensity to close the face of the bat and nudge the ball around off spinners. I would also propose a batting change and enlist Amarnath instead of Hazare, given Amarnath's proven ability against quick bowlers, which is going to be the crux of Pakistan's attack, and in particular his ability to read and counter reverse swing which he showed on the '83 and '84 tours to Pakistan. My XI would read : Gavaskar Sehwag Dravid Tendulkar Amarnath Mankad Kapil Engineer Kumble Srinath Nissar

I just suggested Bedi for those who think he deserved it :-) I am afraid I do not agree to the inclusion of Srinath before any of the great spinners. You have to play your great bowlers irrespective of what they bowl. During Bradman's entire career (barring the bit after the war) Australia had no pace bowlers to speak of and yet they hardly lost a series (Bodyline being an exception after Bradman's debut series) and the reason was two of the greatest leg spinners of all time - Grimmet and O'Reilly. Whenever Bradman was asked to name the greatest Australian side of all time, from 1948 when he retired till his death, these two were permanent fixtures in his eleven and Australia had produced some of the greatest pace bowlers the game has seen. If we had another kapil Dev, I would have included him but at the expense of Mankad who is the lesser of the three spinners. If I do have to include another pacer in this side (and I see the point of having one) I would drop Mankad and include L. Amar Singh, a fabulous medium fast bowler in the class of Fazal Mahmood and a very powerful lower middle order batsman. But I wouldn;t drop the two frontline spinners. If I had to drop one of these spinners I would do it only to include the great Subhash Gupte who should have been bracketed with Chandra in that eleven. I just missed him since I was not concentrating on the perfect all time India side but just trying to show the differences between the two - India and Pakistan. Its like making the greatest West Indies side of the 20 years of the 70's and 80's. I would not include a Rafique Jumadin or a Holford, or anyone else just to have a spinner. I do not like four pacers in the side but will not include a bowler if he is not right up their with the finest and I am afraid Srinath wasn't.
