Let's break the squad down: Batsmen: Dhoni (also Wk), Sehwag, GG, Kohli, Raina, Rohit and Tiwary Pacers: PK, Zak, Nehra and Dinda Spinners: Bhajji, Ojha and Ashwin Bits and pieces: Jadeja Looking at the squad, it appears as if the selectors pick without thinking much abt the balance. Would have liked to see: 1. a pace bowling all-rounder in the squad. Esp considering that guys like Ojha, Ashwin and Bhajji are amongst our better ODI bowlers and we need to play at least two of them in the 11. Also it's good to play 3 seamers considering bowling options for 20 overs of PP and bowling at the death 2. a reserve WK. What if MS gets sick on the morning of the game. A quick fix replacement could cost us the game

Are you dreaming? I would like that and this, while actually we have none of those. A reserve WK would be good but again those names like DK,NO are out of form and would just use up one slot against a in form batsman. And regarding the option one, we have none of them and it is better to be first good in bowling than having batting as a bonus with hopeless bowling like IP. And we already have two potential allrounders like RJ, RA who can bat a bit and bowl well. So in the end, a perfect squad with all available resources

If the youngsters jump at their chance and put in strong performances like they did in Zimbabwe recently and the T20 WC, the selectors can drop him for the next series.

He isn't a wuss like your "stars" like Younus Khan who backed out of tough Test series in New Zealand and Australia.

I won't buy BCCI's statement that Sachin wants to spend time with his family hence he's opting out. He was indeed practising at MIG for some days..suddenly stopped few days back. It seems finger injury hasn't healed completely. PS: If Sachin wants to rest, so be it! no one's gonna complain coz he's Sachin Tendulkar! not another Tom,Dick or Harry (Read Akthar,Afridi or MoYo).

I appreciate your opinion but I don't buy such arguments. For me a good squad is one that is balanced and has option that I spoke about. Unless you have someone, like Uthappa for example, who can keep at a short notice till you fly in back up keeper, I would pick a reserve wk even if it means having DK, who is doing a reasonable job as a keeper. Things start going downhill when you expect DK to play like a key specialist batsman and also keep wkts. And yes, I would have tried out Irfan Pathan. He may not bowl that great but I guess, he can do a better job as the 5th bowler than the part-timers. And his batting at #7 or up the order to take advantage of PP is useful I understand your urge to stand up for the selectors but while the squad selection is not bad it's not 'perfect' squad (no matter how hard you try to justify it) :winky:

Rahane had a good emerging players tourno (a while ago, but it was ltd overs cricket vs near inernational class bowling) to add to his consistent FC form over a few years against a higher standard of opposition. I hope he has a storming tour of the UK.

I believe Tiwary had a good Ranji season but so did Manish pandey.I think its a bold move,we need a big hitter down the order with yusuf and yuvi both out.

Jadeeeeeeejaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. This **** has to be the luckiest fking player alive. He messes up so many times and is yet always selected. Overall, its a positive sign that Yuvi and Y Pathan were dropped. Yuvi, needs to workout his troubles before the WC and needs a wake up call. Good the R Ashwin was selected. Bhajji has regressed into a full defensive bowler and needs a bit of competition for the off-spinners slot. Cant blame the selectors for choosing Dinda or anyone else, as our pace bowling bench is bare. Hopefully, Zaheer, Praveen and Nehra will be fit.
