Anyone got any stats on the test match percentage results. As everyone says India tracks are flas etc etc. But would like to know the facts on this. Over the last 5 or 10 years anyone show what percentage of test matches in India which produce results in comparison to say aus and england? Any of you stat masters help in this?

Well, I eat humble pie. I slammed this pitch after day 1, but it produced a great test match, one that went well into day 5, comfortably produced a result, without the pitch doing pyrotechnics. But bear in mind, the ddifference b/w a flat track that produces draws and a sporting track that produces results is not as big as we think it is. If it were so simple and straightforward, our curators would all produce pitches that would be produce crackers of test matches. Pitch preparation is both science and an art and no one has it quite figured it out yet. But, we in the subcontinent have an inherent disadvantage, when it comes to places like Australia/England, given the type of soil that naturally occurs in our part of the world, the weather conditions, the atmospheric humidity etc. It all adds up to making it extra hard for our curators to produce true tracks that have something for everyone.

I thought it was the worst track I have seen in Mohali which is sill better than those across India.

Actually due to heavy rains in Chandigarh the track is not the best. No bounce, The batting seems difficult because of lack of bounce and pace

^ Thats what I mean its not that easy to bat. That is the defintion of a good track according to english and co. If this track was in england and team was 224-5 after day 1. They would be saying what an amazing track it was and how great it was for test cricket. And how these tracks are saviour of test cricket while Indian tracks were killing tests

what is called a good track then, this was perfectly good track good for batting as we saw when Ponting was playing, it is not curator's fault if Aussies don't take initiative and go defensive. Why is it every pitch in world has to play same.

Cricket is played with bat and ball. What about the bowlers? What did this pitch have in it for the bowlers?

What were those catches which dropped from, were they not due to spin and swing to some extent. any wicket on first day if bowling side can take 6 to 7 wickets is not a bad wicket.You don't want a wicket to turn square from day 1 ,2 then it will reverting back to 90s. On this wicket if batsmen is willing to grind out and have positive intent , they could score and more importantly on day1 it gave bowlers assistance in terms of low bounce and some turn. Bowlers needed to bowl straight to get full rewards and it was reversing when ball was older.What else you can except from sub continent wicket.Losing toss is not death knell on this wicket which is the case on most sub continent wickets. It will take more turn from day 3, I think so it was fair pitch in my view.

Its a great track. Result orientated. If you bat well you can score runs but if you bowl well you can get wickets. Compliments to the groundsman:two_thumbs_up:

Abrasive nature of pitch makes it scuff the ball more, if there is lot of grass on pitch it wont scuff up that much. I think now bouncing the ball to bowler to scuff up the ball is illegal. I understand carry is low but on this pitch if bounce is fine and ball comes on to bat nice it will become batting paradise and losing toss means you are almost playing to save the match rather winning it. As home team you cannot have green tracks as it is not our strength, so what is next best alternative other than having rank turners.

this pitch is CRAP. will only get worse as the match progresses. its a shame, because mohali generally has great cricket pitches. bangalore will be the complete opposite, usually a much faster pitch. our bowlers will like it a lot more

Gutter pitch, the ball was barely keeping knee height on the first session of the first day of the test match. Absolutely NO bounce and NO carry through to the keeper.

Dravid took a nice catch in slip and right at end Dhoni spilled a sitter of Khnas bowling. Considering the pitch has NO bounce thats pretty amazing. Great track. Watch when India bat, it will look a belter:--D

Actually I am pro-diversity! I love the fact that cricket is among the few games in the world which can boast of varying types of playing surfaces and therefore varying types of playing styles taking precedence. No matter what - this pitch was not a good one. Not from a bowlers' point of view. And also not from the batsmen's. This is just a slow, low pitch. Am just saying it as it is. The only batting game that can flourish if bowlers are decent is the patience game. Unless the surface changes drastically in the coming days.

the good thing is that india has good spinners that can bowl annoying lines and a bowler that can reverse swing. so that gives india a huge advantage over the aussies, who will struggle to take 20 wickets with their lame one dimensional bowlers
