Cricketics Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 After ignoring this thread for about 5 years, I have finally entered here. I have started playing tennis alongside my regular cricket to lose some weight. Also I love tennis so that makes it more fun. I wish I had time to do some work out too after playing 2 sports, but I will try to lose lot of weight in next 2-3 months. Great thread Lurker.
vvvslaxman Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Went to urgent care today as i didn't get doc appointment immediately. I got Tendinitis. Will take 10 days to recover :(
mishra Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Went to urgent care today as i didn't get doc appointment immediately. I got Tendinitis. Will take 10 days to recover :( This brings another question. All the gym gurus here? Say i have a strength limit of lifting 5 kgs max. Now to build muscles (hope someday i will) is it better to try to lift 5kgs or do a lift of say comfortable lift of 4 kgs but in a slow movement? I want to understand what is the difference in building the tear and muscle mass? Because looks like vvs tried some jerky movement with huge mass. Get well soon

Get well soon You should concentrate on form and be able to do just about 8-10 reps with it..do 3 sets Once you can start doing 10-12, increase by 2.5 lbs and repeat process. It will take time to find the right weight. Focus on form. To avoid injuries stretch and do a mockrun with weights 1/3 of original Positive cycle ( lifting) should be relatively fast, breathe out Negative cycle ( resisting) should be slow ( count to 8 as you complete), breathe in
Lurker Posted May 10, 2012 Author Posted May 10, 2012 So I take it no one has tried insanity here? Why? Whats wrong with the good old working your butt off, eating right, sleeping well and letting your body respond in the rightful manner. Havent tried Insanity, and I definitely do not knock any process that can help anyone get in better shape, but one should realize this are good only in small bursts, you will have to go back to a healthy lifestyle to sustain it, so why not begin with it in the first place? :winky:
Lurker Posted May 10, 2012 Author Posted May 10, 2012 This is the one i have. I honestly didn't think i would hurt myself doing this. Very good reminder about wearing wrist-band while doing these. You could hurt yourself even doing very simple things. That machine made me wonder if you had a forearm issue, or tendinitis. As it turns out you have the latter. I am not a huge fan of machines for that very reason. It provides great value in working off home amidst hectic schedule of life, but it has its own pitfalls. Look at the chest press movement for example, you may actually have hurt yourself doing that. Chest press is supposed to work your chest, however when you start the movement the maximum force is not on your chest, or shoulders, it is on your arms and elbows. You essentially use your weakest part, elbow joint, to lift that weight first inch or two. The movement its off then you start using your chest and shoulders. Now if you are not thoroughly warmed up, your elbows will take a big hit. This is the same reason I don't do barbell bench press either. Unless you have a spotter you will end up messing your joints simply trying to lift off the rack. I personally prefer dumbbells because you lift them off the weight racks and your body comes into play to a larger extent. I do prefer barbells for squats, deads and rows but not bench press or shoulder press (unless I do push press which is another matter). Keep an eye on your joints when you use that machine VVS. At the very least do enough warmups. xxx

I have had a healthy lifestyle for a good last year or so. And I eat right as well. I rarely eat before I go to bed anymore. Cut down on chips and other junk. I will try out insanity very soon. It's been 8 months since I quit the gym and it's a good thing I've only gained 10 pounds. I thought I would gain more but I've managed it quite well as per my standards. Have been sleeping a lot better lately too. Rarely stay up past 12. Insanity should be good. Also helps me with the fact that I play a lot of sports in the summer. Basketball, Cricket, Soccer, Tennis, etc.

It puts lot of stress on my forearm more than my chest. I have space constraint in my basement. This is very compact. I do the below also after this. I wonder if i hurt myself doing the below.

I want to understand what is the difference in building the tear and muscle mass? Because looks like vvs tried some jerky movement with huge mass. Get well soon You will have to figure out the answer yourself. Ask your question in 5 years and share what you find out. That simple question, heavy weight vs volume, is dependent on a lot of factors. 1) Age. How old are you? A 15-25 year old youngster can do all kind of bad lifting and still survive (mostly). A 25-35, or older, will start hurting after the first mistake. This is simply Father Nature taking over. Joints get weak, and they are weakest link. 2) Whats your lifting like? Are you a lone wolf? Or do you work out with someone, have a spotter? If former you cant possibly lift without hurting yourself at some time, if latter he can always lift you up when you are in a hole. 3) Recovery. How much time outside gym do you spend eating right and resting? Just hitting gym does nothing. As a youngster you can possibly rest a long time and not worry about work, girl/wife, kids, parents etc etc. Or you may be able to work around it too. Depend on you really. I personally am a lone wolf for the most part and I keep my weights about 90% of 1 rep max and do 6-8 reps, never less than 6 .
suraj Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Went to urgent care today as i didn't get doc appointment immediately. I got Tendinitis. Will take 10 days to recover :( 10 days is not bad you can still do cardio in the meantime
vvvslaxman Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 10 days is not bad you can still do cardio in the meantime Yup that is exactly my plan is. Cardio cardio more cardio at the risk of losing a bit of muscle mass.
akshayxyz Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 ^ In 10 days you wont lose anything significant.. just keep your protein intake upto the mark.
