suraj Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Hmm, as a newbie on this forum, I guess a quick intro is in order... although I've been posting on cricket since 1991 -- I suspect some of you weren't even born then :-) Most pertinent fact about me, from this forum's POV: I'm one of the co-founders of CricInfo -- well, "co-founder" is a strong term given CricInfo's origins, but I was certainly among the first few volunteers who set up and ran the IRC bot, the gopher site and then the web site back in 1992-93. As for the more mundane stuff -- professional stuff -- look me up on LinkedIn. But CricInfo is now owned by ESPN, so presumably they pay, and try to make money via online advertising, sales in the CricInfo Store, etc. In the old days when it was volunteer-run, we raised some money via donations, bought a second-hand Sun workstation to host CricInfo, and relied on friendly professors in US universities to keep it running on their university networks!

Oh, then u and Hari Sampat of chennai must have interacted together a lot. he mentioned in a post about- when cricinfo was founded by seshadri and friends, he had been associated as a volunteer with them.

Sorry I don't recall Hari Sampat (maybe I knew him only by his IRC nickname!)... Certainly know Badri Seshadri well, although he wasn't quite a "founder" -- he joined the gang of volunteers a year or two down the line. Badri quickly became one of the most active and passionate of the CricInfo "Management", as we used to call ourselves :) He moved to India (Chennai) after finishing his PhD, and set up CI's India office there.
