Should Mohammad Amir be banned or rehabilitated, if found guilty?

Yes age will be a mitigating factor. I guess 2-3 year ban if found guilty and give him a chance to redeem himself...especially if it is found out that he bowled the no ball under the influence of his captain. He can clear his head and come back.

If this is just a one-off case, ban him for five years but many previous matches involving Pakis are also under investigation and we don't know for how long he's been part of this fixing syndicate.

haven't read the thread or other discussion going on but here is the thing - You can not have 2 different ruling for same crime just because one of the guilty has put his fake age to be 18. You also can not make the rules on the fly, something which people are asking for, either all should be banned or all should go scot-free

I normally like Athers but I cannot agree with him on this. If leniency is shown because of the age, it will encourage players to start cheating as young as possible. 18 is young no doubt, but it is not young enough to not know that what he was doing was wrong. I said "life ban" earlier. And I still stand by that. Or at the very least, 10 years. If at all he is banned, it is more likely to be a few months IMO. Thanks to all the lobbying by the Athertons and Holdings of this world. These are the guys who weaken the game. I don't care if he is the greatest player on earth. The game is bigger than him. And that is what needs to go out clearly to all players. Whatever punishment the players get now (assuming they are found guilty and are punished) will be watched keenly by everybody around the world. Aspiring players need to realise that crime does not pay. Sorry, but a ban of a few months or a couple of years is nothing. Might as well scrap it altogether and let these guys go. Why pretend?

Very well said, Boycs. A plea bargain for Aamer is not a bad idea. And if there are other rotten apples out there, they need to be exposed too. I have a feeling that there are other players there though only these three are in the limelight. Like Hameed said, you are a crook only if you are caught.

I hope Amr gets let off by getting a lenient punishment. I hope being a young bowler, he becomes a 'role model' for many more young bowlers in Pakistan..I hope this cycle continues..If PCB is not taking any action on top of what ICC is taking who are we to protest? If PCB thinks Amir has not done any grave mistake and gives an impression that it's upto ICC to do whatever they need to, they'll not do anything to Amir for sullying the 'image' of PCB and Pakistan, then I hope more and more young Pak bowlers follow the 'path' which Amir took..

Aamer should be given a plea bargain. Spit out everything aka the truth and expose everyone and he can be let off with a light consequence. We all know Aamer got seduced into this fiasco, this should be his chance to make something out of his career. Either spit out the truth or face the consequences with rest of the pack.

I strongly feel ICC should get PCB to hand out the punishments/fines. ICC should let PCB know the charges etc. and let PCB to decide the best possible action. Unless PCB is involved, it will always be 'Them Vs Us'. PCB/Pakistan will go to town that they didn't wanted to take harsh action but ICC (controlled by BCCI) did this and that. PCB has been trying it's best to hide itself in this fiasco as if they don't have any responsibility other than trowing hissy fits and blaming the whole World. Let PCB decide what course of action that wish to take and they will be responsible for that action and not ICC. If ICC takes any action and if Amir gets off lightly and does fixing again in future, everybody, including PCB/Pakistan will blame ICC.

No they'll not and they have to pay for it. And I hope they don't act in a mature way. I mean when have they acted in a mature way? But if you don't involve those tossers, they'll not take any responsibilities and will always be ready to blame everything on ICC and BCCI. This was PCB's failure and they are the PRIME culprits and they only have to DEAL with it. They cannot hide anywhere now and then again get their Corrupt High Commissioner to deal with ICC in future and blame the whole World.
