Prasad might bag Oz coaching job

Misleading news. He said he would consider it if approached. He has not been approached so how is he a formal candidate that can be shortlisted ?
Not really. He was questioned after reports stated that he is being considered. Anyhow, I hope he gets it and the Australian bowlers destroy our batting line up after that. That might teach a thing or two to the BCCI for firing someone who was doing an excellent job.

Wasim, Waqar, Actor, Sarfraz & Imran will join the Aussie Taliban if that happens. On a serious note, it would be a really interesting development if at all it moves forward. The Aussie way of going about things with an Indian touch to it, a tantalizing prospect. How will the crowds react when Australia tours India ? This might be the first time an Indian will be on the other side while facing a main stream squad (Kenya/Bangladesh etc are not main stream after all).

I can't believe people are actually mocking this possibility. India were at their finest in terms of bowling quality under prasad's vigilante and he is one of the candidates (for replacing cooley) for a reason. You needn't be an express bowler to coach one. Coach's job is to identify and iron out the deficiencies he spots and not compete against the bowler to see who can bowl the fastest :dontknow:

But Ishant, Sreesanth, and Zaheer have been a revelation since Prasad left the team, right? I mean, there's no one with higher economy than Sreesanth in ODIs for India and Ishant has lost everything he showed in Australia, and the few series after that up until early 2009. So clearly, getting rid of Prasad has been the right thing to do. .. There's no place for causality or logical reasoning in BCCI's actions, correlations (as distorted as they may be) are enough to ruin careers.

This surely must be a joke. Prasad might be a good coach for spinners and part timers but for real fast bowlers? :omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg:

If I was a fast bowler' date=' I certaintly wouldn't be taking advice on how to bowl from someone who couldn't bowl as fast as me.[/quote'] Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho et al were NOT anything special when they had their cleats on but they for sure are one hell of a managers who have the ability to carry a team of average players and turn them into special players. As I said earlier you needn't bowl fast to be a fast bowling coach. Coaching is determined by how good of a student you were during your playing days and what did you extract from the cricket academia. If someone can give me ONE reference where our pace bowlers were as highly rated as they were under Prasad, then I'd be ready to buy your logic of Prasad being a useless coach.

You're giving the BCCI too much credit. Prasad was removed because our batsmen could not play short pitch bowling. There is not even a correlation here.

This reaction is amazing. There was a time when some people questioned as to why we should be hiring foreign players/coaches as our coach when none of the foreign teams ever hire any of our players as their coach. And when finally there is news that one of them may be considered, we end up laughing at the decision (essentially at ourselves). Talk about low self esteem.

Could be genuine news, could also be just fake news. Sometimes, the players themselves (or their affiliates) start the rumors that they're in contention (not that I think Prasad did it here). The rumor then slowly transforms into real news followed by actual consultations. It happens all the time. But as an aside, Venkatesh Prasad as Aussie fast bowling coach - Dont see that happening. Right/wrong, those guys still consider themselves as those with superior coaching expertise. Its highly unlikely that Australia will ever look beyond their shores, especially towards the subcontinent, for cricket expertise. And btw, this whole thing about the resurgence in Indian fast bowling when Prasad was around..Agreed that our quicks came to the forefront probably for the first time in Indian cricket's history during his tenure, but to give Prasad ALL the credit for that is a bit over the top. I am sure Prasad is a fine coach, but he's probably not the sorcerer who sprinkled gold-dust on guys like Zak and Ishant and transformed them overnight into pace sensations. The players probably worked pretty hard themselves and deserve a share of the praise as well. So this whole notion that Prasad was the difference b/w a struggling pace attack and world-leading one is probably stretching the reality a little bit.

Though it will be a WELCOME change if they do so. Good luck to V.P.

I agree. I don't understand why his (potential) canditature is being ridiculued, if anything THEY approached HIM, HE didn't approach THEM asking to be considered. I still don't understand why he was removed in the first place, what fault it is of his that the batsman couldn't play bouncers at the T20 WC properly ?

On the contrary, Prasad was blamed and chucked out of the system because our batsmen were not able to handle short pitch bowling. No one is deifying Prasad, but it cannot just be a coincidence that the best performance from our fast bowlers came under his tenure as a bowling coach. Of course, the players worked hard. Can you point out one post from me or any of the Prasad supporters where we've said they did not work hard? On the other hand you will find an uncountable number of posts saying Prasad has been telling our bowlers to cut down on their speed, when he has gone on record and denied it. Fact is we had some amazing bowling successes under Prasad's tenure in bowling. And years when our fast bowling stocks have tasted so much of success have never been in seen in our cricket history or present (barring the individual exception of Kapil).

I am not denying any of what Prasad was able to accomplish with our pacers. I think he did fantastic work. In fact, I was one of those who actually took his side, every time some jingoistic fans blamed him for the drop in the pace of our bowlers. But there seems to be prevailing opinion among certain sections of our fans that Prasad was the architect of our emergence in the pace bowling department. I was merely trying to address that opinion. Once again, I am not trying to diminish what he did with the Indian team (and you'd be hard pressed to find any post of mine that is along those lines).
