Well, he will have some serious thinking to do after being left out from the Indian squad for the forthcoming three-match Test series against New Zealand starting November 4 in Ahmedabad. However, Yuvraj's former captain Sourav Ganguly has urged him to keep the faith despite being disappointed. Incidentally, Yuvraj, who last played a Test in July against Sri Lanka, had replaced Ganguly in the Test team during the former captain's lean patch in 2005-06. Ganguly was later dropped from the team following the row with coach Greg Chappell. "Yuvi should not get disheartened. There's no point looking at what has happened. He should look forward and perform whenever he gets a chance," Ganguly told MiD DAY yesterday. Yuvraj, was first done in by dengue on the Sri Lanka tour, due to which Suresh Raina made his Test debut. And the Uttar Pradesh batsman grabbed the opportunity with both hands to cement his place. Comeback Another youngster, Cheteshwar Pujara, who made a sparkling debut in the second Test against Australia in Bangalore, took away even the slightest of chances Yuvraj had to make a Test comeback. However, yesterday's decision by the selectors does not mean it's the end of the road for the Punjab dasher, felt Ganguly. "Yuvraj is a talented guy. With so much of cricket being played, I am sure he will get a call-up whenever somebody is out of form or injured. That's when he can prove his mettle," he said. Former chairman of selectors Kiran More, under whose reign Yuvraj had his best years in Test cricket, too reckoned the southpaw should not lose hope. "He still has a lot of cricket left in him. He should not get distracted with these things (selection). He was out for a while with injuries, so it will take time for him to be at his best," More said. "He should not lose hope so soon. I am sure if he keeps performing in ODIs and T20s, he will be in the reckoning once again. All he needs to do is get back his confidence," More signed off.

Yuvi's time in test cricket is over in my opinion,there are far too many quality young batsmen coming up ,who are waiting for their chance to perform at the test level but one last chance he could get is when laxman and dravid retires

I think Yuvraj has to be handled better by the captain. He is "symonds" like character. He needs to play Test like he plays ODIs and not be asked to change hi s game or confuse his mindset. The talent is there, he needs the captain's confidence and direction. I think Ponting did wonders to Symond's career starting from 2003 WC and later in tests.

Yuvi lacks 1) Temperament 2) Technique for a long career in Tests.

My recommendation to YS would be to take a deep breath and get a county stint for a year. Just look at where that has gotten Zak after that 2005 dropping. He came back better and hungrier. With YS he has the game and talent but the question is his temperament for the longer version and believing in himself. County cricket in England far removed from the poster boy image and following in the home setting can help him focus and resurrect. He is 29 now. If he really does put in the hard yards in the FC cricket he can reap 5 years of good Test cricket down the road. But then that is a all a big 'if' with YS as of now. We will see what happens. And by the way enough of all these media glares and how he might have gotten the short end of the stick. Time for him to make his bat talk in the FC variety or else he can for ever rest in peace forgetting Test Match Cricket.

Between now and NZ ODIs, there are a number of Ranji games. Yuvi should go play those games and pile the runs. 1-2 Ranji 100s from him and he will be back in the contention, such is his prowess.

Then, you had Srikkanth giving public statements as to how he felt Yuvraj could be a very good middle order bat for India. Between then and now, they’ve obviously had a re-orientation of their opinion that now seems pretty irreversible, unless of course both Raina and Pujara fail miserably, which is highly unlikely. Yuvraj should stop brooding over his lost test spot and focus all his energies on bringing us WC glory. After all, it was the ODI game that bought him all the accolades in the first place and propelled him to the forefront. If Yuvraj wants to make a bold statement, he has all the opportunities to do, come Feb-March, 2011.

Yuvraj is last person in world who should complain about being dealt rough hand, he never took his chances to cement his place in test side.He played 33 odd matches with 3 100s and 9 50s which is just not good enough for player who is in team mainly as a batsman. One of main reasons India lost series last time in Australia was due to Yuvraj, to accommodate him in they had to restructure whole batting line up and leave Sehwag out.He failed miserably there. Even after Ganguly retirement , he played 10 straight tests without making a 100 , Yuvi's biggest drawback in test matches is self belief, he tries to do bat differently in tests playing defense which never was not his forte. Yuvi and Viru are India's finest stroke makers and yet Viru is great success in tests because he backs himself and plays the lot of self belief which Yuvi lacks , that 169 in Bangalore test against Pakistan was one innings where he played with total conviction that was his best knock. Viru's advise to Gambhir about scoring not just 50s but big hundreds which will make selectors think twice to drop you never reached Yuvi. Now getting back into test team is not in his hands.
