Great to see even after having a pathetic year and a half,Ishant has some admirers and people saying dont confuse his ODI performances with Test performances,I want to ask them has Ishant Sharma done anything of note after he had a good series against Aussies at home in 2008.He has gone downhill since then. He still doesnt has good length to be successfull at subcontinental wickets,he bowls too short to trouble good batsmen and make use of new ball.Most of the time you see him wasting the new ball,bowling wide of the batsmen. Another thing is that he struggles big time against left handers,he looks a limited bowler when he is up against a left handed batsman Regarding revese swing,after Zak ,Sree is our second best bowler with the old ball rather than Ishant

While I'm equally split in trying to choose one, I am surprised to hear some say that Ishant is better at reverse swing than Sreesanth. Really!? ZK is the best for India with reverse, and then there is a big gap, and I thought Sree will be a distant second, and then Ishant (only with respect to reverse) Other than that both Sree and IS are very erratic, and depends on which the good or bad version turns up for that particular day of bowling. If its the good one, then its is wonderful for India.

Might not be a bad idea I say. Has there been any test match in Ahmedabad since we were shot out for 76 by Steyn and Ntini ? If we are offered same kind of pitch, we can have both of them along with Zaheer and Harbhajan. It is just Newzealand, we can afford to do some experiments :--D

Well, to me, Ishant has done nothing exceptional, even in Mohali, when he got the three wicket haul, off that only one wicket looked menacing that of Michael Clarke.He was clueless about his seam position, he didn't have control over his jump, he was in a wild no ball spree, and you say he has impressed you ? He did well to score invaluable 31 runs, alright.But in terms of his bowling, i don't see him ahead of Sreesanth for Tests.If Sree is fit, he is the one to pick.In fact, Ishant has got too many chances fair enough, Sree has been injured.Now hat Sree is fit and raring to go, why not give him a chance ahead of crucial SAF series ?

It’s a pretty hard choice to make. Both looked pretty equal in the Australia tests, but if I had to pick someone, it would be Ishant. He had a lackluster first innings in Mohali, but came back outstandingly in the 2nd innings. If anything, it was his spell on day 4 that put us in a match-winning position. Plus, he’s definitely more adept at reverse swing than Sreesanth is. To me, that tips the balance in favor of him, though Sree showed a lot of energy (and gnarling teeth..:--D) in the 2nd test and deserves to be commended. I cant wait for Zak, Ishant and Sree to go to England next summer. That should be a mouth-watering prospect. :yay:

we thought same in 2006 too and Sree was just rubbish then...that is why I dnt trust this guy now...he does not give confidence to any team as what kind of Sreesanth will turn up on the day of a match...it was just embarrassing to see him bowling in that series

I think Ishant is doing a fairly good job atm. SO Ishant! BTW if always surprises me that off field Sree looks like a gentle person but on field well .... lol

Ishant bowled well in the 2nd innings in the 1st test which changed the mindset of our team. He may be incosnsistent but in some spells he is immaculate in which even the best batsmen struggle. In the Sri Lanka series also he did the same in which Jayawardene couldnt touch a delivery despite being in good touch. Sreesanth has also been good, but he is more inconsistent than Ishant.

Did you follow Ishant's recent Test bowling performances? He has been severely below par, a shadow of what he was. There was only one spell where he got 3 wickets in which he showed glimpses of what he could be. If you look past the figures of Sreesanth he bowled quite well in the Test that he played in.

As far as I know, Ishant is not fully fit since last few months. In fact he has been postponing knee surgery as it might rule him out for the world cup. Is it because of injury like Chandan has written above? Perhaps MSD is well aware of Ishant Sharma's injury that he is STILL carrying.

Have to say I am slightly surprised by the decision to go in with Sree over Ishant. I think Ishant is the better sub-continental bowler hands down and a significantly better exponent of reverse, which for all practical terms, is the fast bowler’s sole friend in Indian conditions. Maybe the team was impressed by Sree’s form in the nets and Ishant might have looked a bit rusty, coming back from injury. Sree bowled with a lot of pace and fire in the B’lore against Australia. Maybe the team thinks that could be a better foil to Zak’s swing, who knows.
