I blame a certain passionate website for all the issues Pak cricket is facing now..Pak cricketers are so readily 'approachable' by anybody (fans, self proclaimed geordie accent journalists, mafia, bookies etc.) that they themselves don't know who is a genuine fan or a bookie..All other teams/players keep a safe distance and maintain a dignity which is this un-educated lot will find difficult to follow and hence the present situation of Pak cricket..

I think it is players who are out of team like Akmal using match fixing as a weapon are doing this to ensure their places in the team with the backing of PCB. This guy scores 88 runs on his test debut and is then sent home for next under broken finger pretext so Akmal can play again.PCB is hiding something for sure.

Young cricketers should learn from Haider episode: Ganguly

Former India cricket captain Sourav Ganguly on Thursday said the incident involving Pakistan wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider should be an eye opener to the young cricketers. "Zulqarnain incident is an eye opener. I have played top level cricket for 14-15 years but never faced such a situation. I shudder to think that someone picks up a phone and gives a threat," Ganguly told reporters here on the eve of the Mohammedan Sporting Platinum Jubilee Cup to be held from Friday. The former left-handed batsman, however said that he did not agree with Haider's reaction and his decision to take political asylum in England. "He should have played on," said Ganguly, adding, "It is a lesson for the young cricketers and they should be very careful about betting."

The intriguing aspect of this case is that a) Either Zulqarnain Haider is serial liar who just made stuff up to flee to the UK and get asylum there or b)Cricket in general, specifically Pakistan cricket, is in much bigger sh!t than we all thought it was. Everybody knew match-fixing existed, but you would think the the cases of them happening are isolated and mostly orchestrated through a network of bookies and corrupt cricketers. But the way Haider is putting it (if it is true), then it seems like the malice runs a lot deeper than we all could ever imagine. Not just that, if death threats are involved, this is not just a cricket integrity issue, but a serious law and order issue. At the end of this, we will either find that Haider simply made stuff up to go to the UK or the game that have come to love so much is in terrible shape, far worse than what we could all have possibly thought. Btw, even if the allegations of Haider being threatended by bookies were true, I am still not sure how that can make a case for a successful asylum application. When you apply for asylum in a foreign country, the autotmatic implication is that home country (Pakistan) is either not willing or incapable of protecting you fro m the threats. How are the immigration lawyers of Haider ever going to convince the UK courts that the Pakistani govt. is simply incapable/unwilling to protect Haider from the bookies? More importantly, will there be deposition from the Pakistani govt. representatives in these hearings, where they will vehemently oppose this application? Frankly, if the UK courts do grant asylum, it’s a big slap in the face of the Pakistani govt and it could potentially spiral into a big diplomatic crisis.

Exactly, you cannot claim asylum because some goondas are threatening you in your neighborhood. If Haider’s claims are true, I am not in any way trying to diminish the threat he feels either to himself or his family, but surely, this is not a appropriate case for an asylum application.
