Hey guyz, Cricket lovers around the world eagerly wait for worldcup. But thanks to BCCI, 2011 worldcup will be the most boring worldcup in the history of the game and i can bet my life on this. I tell you why,Lets just have a look at the format ICC has come up with after coming enormous amount of pressure from BCCI.:

I just read that and not going to bother reading it either. I hate the format and have written multiple rants on how this format sucks. But wtf does BCCI has anything to do with it?I know pakis are famous for creating their own conspiracy theories and running with it in major newspaper like the this weeks "Wikileaks shows India supports pak terrorists", but this is not a pak message board. FYI, the ICC gets all the money from the World cup tv rights and pays the country that hosts the games a fixed amount for the grounds. Then a percent off the profits are shared equally by all test playing nations. So WTF does BCCI has to lose if India crashes out, economically? Absolutely nothing. It is the ICC that will lose. More importantly, being the poorest board, PCB will lose more since their share will be hit. But for most other boards the cut they get from ICC is a fraction off what they make generally.So it is ICC and PCB that losses the most. Where does BCCI come into this? The format was chosen by the ICC. You cant blame pawar either since he wasnt at power when the format was fixed. So tell me , where does BCCI comes into this???

If you think that Bangladesh, Ireland and Zimbabwe are playing just for the numbers, you are making the same mistake as teams in 2003 and 2007 WCs made. BD are playing all their matches at home and I would fully back them to upset a few established teams. Similarly Zimbabwe and Ireland playing some of their matches in SL ( especially the D/N ones where the ball seams aroubd a lot). Then Teams would like to avoid facing particular teams in QFs and will accordingly be watching the points table. It's going to be anything but boring. Also with most of the matches in India and BD, you would expect a good crowd in the stadium (unlike the 2003 and 2007 WCs when matches not involving the home teams hardly had any crowd in the stadium). The only complaint I have with the format is that by running it for nearly 40-41 days, ICC has made it a little longer. A crispier version lasting not more than 4 weeks would have been wonderful and that was easily possible had the plan been to have at least 2 preliminary round matches every day. There are 18 days on which only one preliminary round match is being played, ICC could easily have scheduled 2 matches on at least 10 of those days and cut down the tournament by around 2 weeks.

You think having more teams in the worldcup will expand cricket. Your right. Every one will be so excited to watch a match between australia and india (both teams will have qualified for the quarter final by then) in front of 100 spectators. This worldcup will be exactly like 1996. Not a single soul in more than 75 percent of the matches and packed up stadium in 7 matches. Like i said before' date=' good luck watching 42 long, boring, dull matches[/quote'] You have to realize that tickets were sold out a year ago. Quarter finals qualification or not, India vs OZ would be worth every penny even out of the context of the World cup. Cricket is not a game of numbers but souls. It has always excited and connected the large audience. There is a reason why it's the second largest sport in the world.

Don't underestimate teams like Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. There are going to be a lot of set backs and surprises this time around. Bangladesh has been building and are now a decent team. They have their own top pacers, spinners, all rounders, opening specialists, middle order specialists. Not to mention that their captain has a very cool and smart head on his shoulders.
