Cricket worldcup 2011 will be the most boring worldcup ever....Thanks to BCCI... Must comment

Not sure (or care) about the BCCI bit but i agree the format is pants. This ties in with the other thread. What's more important - India winning 3 back-to-back one-dayers against, let's say, Australia, South Africa, and Sri Lanka to lift the cup OR India winning 3 back-to-back tests in South Africa?

The indian team is the main draw at home(whether you like it or not ).The world cups success and the Indian team success are very much related.I too dont like the format but you have to face the realities of sponsorship and money being generated from the event(a concept that might be alien to pakistanis now).

Wow, that is some rant! Lots of errors of course, but still :hatsoff: Will the league phase of the world be cup be a bit dull? Probably. But, is that because of a joint ICC-BCCI conspiracy to ensure that India qualifies for the knock-outs? It would be, if your name is Zaid Hamid. It isnt BCCI’s fault that they have to play so many associate teams. The format we had for the 2007 WC was horrendous, where teams were eliminated or qualified based upon just a couple of lucky wins. Having a team play 9 matches just in the league phase will make the tournament simply too long and arduous. They obviously tried to factor in the feedback from the previous WC, which was widely criticized as being too long and drawn out. In this format, there might be a lot of inconquential league matches, but a significant portion of them will be probably be played on the same day as some other, more competitive match. And the insinuation that this was all a plot to make sure India would qualify is ridiculous because its not like India is being gifted a few free matches. They still have to play well and win to go through. If anything, if recent history is anything to go by, then we can even argue that having a knocks-outs from quarter final onwards works AGAINST India, since historically, we have been very good at bilateral series, but not-so-good when it comes to ICC events involving knock-outs. Therefore, the chances of India winning the cup actually increase, as the number of knock-outs decreases. And this whole thing about Fifa WC being exciting – Gimme a break! The football WC has its fair share of irrelevant matches as well. And finally, the most glaring blooper of all. We cannot play 16 teams in the Champions trophy because…err.. It’s the CHAMPIONS TROPHY. It is only meant to be played among the top teams of the world.

So India winning 7 straight games in front of packed stadia to be then eliminated in it's first and only knock-out game would count as success?

That is my point. A team who wins the tournament is most likely to be not the best team in the tournament. Its more like a fluke. Any team can fluke itself to worldcup which is really very sad

I agree. Pakistan winning the 1992 by a fluke was a sad state of affairs.

Wow. My threads has flaws.Ok. Your post in nothing but flaws but dont call me zaid hamid and stick to the topic please.First flaw every team playing against each other will have two matches less than what we we have now.Secondly, it is not a conspiracy to make sure india goes to quarter finals, every good team will go to quarter finals, hense reducing the importance of the group matches. Thirdly, in current format india have less chances of winning worldcuo because any team can fluke itself tov victory by winning last three matches. Fourthly, football worldcup didnt have any useless boring matches, Name one if you dont agree. But anyways, good luck watching 42 boring matches

92 world cup please that was most flawed world cup ever Pakistan were lucky to go even in semis because of rain out the match which they should have lost it , they were all out for 74 letting other more deserving team teams like Australia or WI knocked out who had same number of wins plus better run rate but due that rain out Pakistan went thru. Group system plus super six which was there for last 2 (2003 1999) world cups was best , it eliminates weak team and gives a chance for a strong team to make up for slow start. Super Eights like in last world was lame it had danger of weak team going thru that is exactly what happened. This Quarter final business is so lame all the good work done by team can be wiped out by one bad match it happened in 1996 with SA. I might add 92 world had least deserving finalists ever to have played world cup final in history of 8 world cups. England going thru to final on ridiculous rain rule and Pakistan going to semis itself was a travesty.

You son of ******** :haha: They're trying to be inclusive and promote cricket among other nations. Do you blame the ATP because there's loads of avg/below avg players for more than half the tournament ? Do u really care about the sport or is it that u want eliminations asap ?
