Andy Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 What a Bengali moron from the Other side of the Border.
Clarke Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 How do Bangladeshis know hindi ? I'd expect urdu to be frowned upon and they have their own language other than English.
ViruRulez Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 SRK was also wrong to say him ullu even before he came to stage .. but that moron was really irritating How do Bangladeshis know hindi ? I'd expect urdu to be frowned upon and they have their own language other than English. Maybe due to Bollywood. Bollywood rules in all of South Asia and is the main entertainment lifeline of all South Asian countries including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan (not 100% sure about Sri Lanka though). So, all of South Asia would know Hindi due to Bollywood. Even in the middle east and south east Asia a lot of countries know Hindi due to Bollywood and that is why Bollywood is called India's soft power through which we have been spreading culturally over the world. Even after the Al-Qaeeda and Taliban was removed from power in Afghanistan in 2001 I remember newspapers showing how Afghans were on buying crazy for Bollywood posters and photos and they were selling for more than 100 bucks each as Taliban had banned them for all these years. If you check on youtube too you will find Indian actors etc. in Afghan ads like Kabul Bank ads which is their largest bank (I mean small Indian actors/actresses and not the top ones). They are the latest nation to be completely influenced by Bollywood. Pakistan is already fully influenced and though Bollywood is banned in Bangladesh especially under the previous govt. which was anti-India but still Bollywood DVDs were the ones in most demand as per reports. Sri Lanka also has a good amount of Bollywood influence but I am not sure if it is that much as the other three countries of South Asia. Now we are also gradually rising interest in the West especially after Slumdog Millionaire about Bollywood but I do not see Bollywood taking over their local industry like it does in South Asia. So, Bollywood is a reason for so many countries learning and understanding Hindi. I would somewhat agree with your point that Urdu would be somewhat frowned upon in Bangladesh I suppose as they will attach that to their former oppressors Pakistan where it is the official language. The Bengali culture both in India as well as there is quite strong I suppose and they take more pride in Bengali language than any other language. But Hindi is not alien and the guy was overacting for sure. WTF will he visit the concert if he did not watch Bollywood films and did not know Hindi. He was a perfect moron.

Clarke Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 So' date=' Bollywood is a [u']reason for so many countries learning and understanding Hindi. I know, Bollywood is popular among our neighbors. But how is that an incentive to learn a foreign language ? How do they then go about 'learning' Hindi ?
Texy Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 I know' date=' [b']Bollywood is popular among our neighbors. But how is that an incentive to learn a foreign language ? How do they then go about 'learning' Hindi ? you answered your own q dude.... Bollywood is popular hence fully understanding bollywood movies would be a major incentive in learning the language....more specifically understanding Hindi rather than speaking Hindi .....similar to many bengalis in West bengal who can understand Hindi completely but has a mixture of bangla while speaking/ diff accent as well I learned Hindi thru movies as well. I left India pretty early so never had the formal training other than what I actually learned in high school here in the states. You tend to pick it up when you're young esp if you watch a lot of movies.
Clarke Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 ^^ Basically they watch movies with subtitles and thus tend to pick up on the language at least in terms of understanding it. That's cool!
coffee_rules Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 SRK was the one who started with the insults. He was rude and don't know how to be a graceful. Idiot. Atleast start with 'aap' and not 'tu/tum' when addressing somebody you don't know.
Andy Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 ^ Yeah would agree with that. I have seen SRK do that to Indian cricketers also. Still doesnt justify the act of this Bangla Guy.
