time he was booted from the odi team. apart from the fact that his batting is woeful, he seems to be frightfully out of shape. if india are to have any hope of reaching the semis in the world cup, thereby keeping the effigy industry in the red, they need to get rid off the deadwood that still weighs down the team. btw, khan also seems to have swallowed a couple of sheep. obviously the fitness staff are not really keeping tabs on the off-season (injury or recovery time, too) antics of their rather indisciplined charges. who else do u think needs to be given their pink slips in the indian team? what about in other teams?

For those like me who took the sight of a confident, ruthless Yuvraj Singh who would come in and dominate ODI attacks from start to finish for granted, his recent run of form (or the lack of it), has come as rude shock. That he be in top form is more urgent now than it has even been, especially because Dhoni is now more of a grafter/accumulator. It is hard to pin down any specific reason for the downward spiral in his batting fortunes becaue it’s a combination of a lot of factors. First and foremost, was his injury troubles. Right from 2008-09 onwards, he has had to battle successive injury setbacks. That has obviously significantly impacted his rhythm and the confidence he has in own body. Then, the whole IPL fiasco with the KXIP, the captaincy crisis there, his lack of runs and the franchize’s lack of wins must have had a detrimental impact. If that wasn’t enough, he was summarily discarded from the middle order spot in the test line-up. Even though from an Indian test team point of view, that was probably the right decision, Yuvraj would have certainly felt let down, not just by the selectors, but also his team-mates with whom he played for over a decade . But more importantly, it is pretty obvious that a lot was going on his life off the field. He was romantically linked to many women. Those distractions took a toll. His fitness regressed consequenty. He probably turned to alcohol/comfort-eating to take his mind off those things. This is where guys like Sachin, Dravid did the right thing by getting married reasonably early in their careers. I think that stability in their personal life had a huge positive impact on their cricketing careers. But for someone like Yuvraj, its hard to see how all the trials and tribulations of his freewheeling life-style could not have impacted his cricketing focus. That he is not the same player he was 2 years ago is pretty clear. The question now, is this reversal terminal or could it be reversed? At some point or the other, we have to get past the ‘OMG, Yuvraj is out of form’ lamenting mode and ask the question ‘A’right, how many more chances can we give him? ‘. I know I’ve had disagreements with a few of the members here, but I have no doubt that Yuvraj was the MVP of our batting unit in ODIS between 2003 and late 2008. He deserves the longest rope possible, when it comes to letting him get back into the rhythm. But there comes a point when the team’s interests start being harmed and that is not acceptable. The clock is ticking for Yuvi and he knows it.

I think we all agree that Yuvi is out of form and truth of matter is if it continues in World cup there will be no one down the order to provide impetus....Currently no one down the order has that skill to turn around the match. We can always say Raina, kohli etc but none can match Yuvi's power and ability to turn around the match.

Thought of quitting last year, says Yuvraj Press Trust Of India New Delhi, February 04, 2011 India middle-order batman Yuvraj Singh on Friday revealed that he almost thought of quitting international cricket when he was dropped from both the Test and ODI teams in 2010. Yuvraj said that it was the toughest phase in his 10-year-long career and his parents helped him overcome that lean period. "It was tough time for me. I think that was the toughest period for me in last 10 years. There was time when I asked myself do I want to continue. Seriously I thought do I want to play anymore or not. There was lot of negativity around me," he said. "Everytime I hit the field, I was getting injured. That time was really bad for me. I just came out of it with the help of few good friends, my strong father and mother. Some amount of self motivation and hard training," said Yuvraj. The 29-year-old left-hander was dropped from the squad that was picked for the Test series against Australia in October at home and from the ODI squad for the Asian Cup in Sri Lanka in June 2010. Yuvraj said that he is confident to hit form in the forthcoming World Cup. "My form is all great at the moment as compared to last couple of years. Last year it was tough because of injury. I am ready for the World Cup," he said. The Chandigarh-born player's role has increased as a part-time bowler in the side and Yuvraj said that it was because of the absence of a left-arm spinner. "I have been bowling quite frequently and I try to bowl full 10 overs because you don't have main left-arm spinner in the side. I know that my role has increased as a bowler," he said. With youngsters like Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina around, does it make Yuvraj feel insecure or push him to do better? "I am not insecure. I have played for 10 years. When I was young kid I always thought of playing ODIs and now I have played more than 250 ODIs. So no insecurity," Yuvraj told NDTV. He said that like all other Indian teammates, he would like to win the World Cup for veteran batsman Sachin Tendulkar, who will be making his sixth and likely his last appearance in the quadrennial event. "I would give anything for the World Cup and would like to win it for him (Sachin). The combination of his injury troubles, being dropped from the test side and the controversies surrounding his IPL tenure at KXIP seems to have taken a terrible toll on Yuvi. Of course, he’s never going to publicy admit that his IPL troubles impacted him or his off-field issues distracted him as well. He does also say in the interview that he thinks his form is great at the moment. That is pretty much wishul thinking than anything else. The Yuvraj we have seen over the last couple of months isn’t even a shadow of the Yuvraj Singh we saw between 2003-2008.

I do not think YS would have or will be missed even if he had quit based on how he has been peforming over the last 2 years. All these things that I thought of quitting last year etc etc ring a little hollow.

You are right. He needs to put his head down and consistently put runs on the board.

I think the vast majority of those innings he has had to come in early due to the fact that Indias top order bastman have been very selective with the matches they play in. If the top order give him decent starts he'll have a good tournament IMO. Even at Yuvis peak he wasn't the kind of batsman that was able to come in early and get the team out of trouble early on in the innings.

He won 3 man of the series in a row if i remember right. He was such a dependable guy along with Dhoni while chasing. More than Sachin' date=' he has to form one of those famous partnership with Dhoni. Come one let us have a ODI series with pakistan[/quote'] Going to be 4th Man of the series.. i reckon

Told you so. Some of the comments on yuvi really piss me off. i hope these idiots stop watching cricket.
