Raghav_12 Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 How one is comparing Astrology with Homeopathy??? I don't believe in Astrology at all but I have no problem with Homeopathy. My mother had few health problems and she tried all allopathic treatment but to no avail. Finally she tried homeopathy and now has been using it for last 10 years or so. Homeopathy is just different kind of medical system (pardon if I am using wrong word) just like ayurvedic and allopathic. This is no arcane science like astrology or palmistry.

Migraines, allopathy was worst. Allergies, one of my late aunt suffered from water allergy ( how bad is that ) - homeopathy basically took care of it
b555 Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Try homeopathy and see if it works :finger: :hahaha: :rotfl:
punjabi_khota Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 PK' date=' you obviously must have studied about homeopathy to state it's a farce. But what would you have to say about folks who were cured? a mere coincidence? especially blood related issue[/quote'] Yup. You can read about placebo effect. Giving some one a homeopathic medicine is no better or worse than giving him a tablet which has nothing in it.
Rajiv Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Yup. You can read about placebo effect. Giving some one a homeopathic medicine is no better or worse than giving him a tablet which has nothing in it. ..thats fine, I get your point but what about those who actually got cured and I am not talking about common cold or a stomach ache. This is hard proof blood results, amongst other things Are you just stating theory on what you read
triam Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Rajiv If you are interested I can chime about homeopathy, the basic problem it poses is the underlying theory, about water and the amount of dilution that goes on to produce homeopathic medicines. The science of medicine has underlying theories, for the regular western medicine one of them is based on how antibiotics kill bacterias, while for homeo it is the more u dilute the more potent it becomes. Medical science at this point cannot give you perfect answer why a particular symptom vanished or why it came etc etc (Dhondy or other doctors can correct me if I am wrong). So, people design double blind tests etc to find the validity of cures using a particular medicine, in almost every instance homeopathy comes up with equal or lesser than the regular placebo effect.

triam Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 But Rajiv, that does not mean anything that works equivalent to random chance, should be considered as a field of medicine
yoda Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Back to the topic of astrology, interesting read on the scientific basis for astrology: http://www.naturalnews.com/030698_astrology_scientific_basis.html

punjabi_khota Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 :hysterical::hysterical: Isn't that the greatest, and most ingenuous INTERPRETATION of a work of science you have read in a long time. That whole website seems like it is being run by people who seem to be a cross breed of followers of Aasa ram bapu and Bill O' Reilly.

That whole website seems like it is being run by people who seem to be a cross breed of followers of Aasa ram bapu and Bill O' Reilly. I didn't read the rest of the site - the linked article was good enough for the LULZERs! I literally split my guts out after reading, "Even astronomy has its tabloid versions, too, which are entirely non-scientific." But on your advice I will read a few when I feel the need for more LULZERs. The best part was not the article, but someone calling it an 'interesting article'!
f.b.m Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 ZOMGESHAWARA What a thread!! I've missed out on the weekend :rotfl: :rotfl: Arabs have even lower divorce rates and they slaughter a cow at their wedding. Hence killing cows leads to better marriages. Simple. Less jealousy. :creep:
Mariyam Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 @ Varun; What I found out is that the judges decided that 'astrology' falls under the ambit of 'theoretical sciences' as per the definition of 'scientific knowledge'. In a nutshell, 'Sciences' can be broadly classified into theoretical sciences and applied sciences. Every applied science is a theoretical science also. But the reverse is obviously not true. I could reproduce the definition of scientific knowledge here, but its just plain legal speak which will turn most away from the thread. Extra irrelevant information:A theoretical science can be actionable ( duly defined) even if it is not an applied science. However, no such actionable application of a theoretical (non-applied) science can be used as evidence in a court of law. The court order hasn't been put on line yet. Once it is online, which it should be within a few days, I will tell you exactly on what points the judges found astrology to a theoretical science. PS: Without naming him, the person who filed this PIL is a retired octogenarian, who once wielded a lot of political clout due to his job. This is his 15th PIL in the last 1 year.
Ram Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 So mice born in the winters having some random increased brain activity proves that the position of a non-existent planet will influence my luck in the lotto? :hysterical: I am not quite sure which is worse – All those right-wing bloggers who keep spreading those prepostrous lies about the Obama admn and Fox news reporting them or, these hilariously dumb ‘scientific’ articles.

flamy Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 I missed to mention a personal experience of homeopathy. Once, I had fever for nearly 10 days. It used to be alright in the morning but by evening time, it used to come again. I tried the normal allopathic fever medicines (crocin , paracetamol) without success. Then tried a prescribed homeopathic remedy(cant recall the name) 4 times a day and within a couple of days I was fine. It worked for me too! EFT is faster. Try it. :)
f.b.m Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 For people going on about 'allopathy' I'll repost: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWE1tH93G9U]YouTube - James Randi explains homeopathy[/ame]
