DaFan Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Good for you..It is am immense achievement in BD terms. Having said that, i really cant understand the immature hopefulness of the BD fans. India is one of the top 2 favorites to win the WC. Yet, even in the polls conducted here and generally talking to Indians, only about 50~60% expects India to win the WC. But even when BD is not even expected to make the QF according to most non-BD fans, most BD fans, not only expects to go to the QF but to win the WC. I am talking about atleast 1 in 2 guys. Whats with that? i dont know what ur parents taught u but, i was told shoot for the star. You cant expect fans to cheer their team to 2nd 3rd or 4th place..... right?

Dont worry about WI, they are on the up in the test arena and thats what counts, miles better than NZ and better than Pak too. The only thing holding them back is.....Darren Sammy as captain, he just cant justify his place in the team. Want to see this line up against India and WI will give you a run for your money. Tamim aims to be top scorer ESPNcricinfo staff February 4, 2011 Tamim Iqbal, the Bangladesh opening batsman, has announced his intentions of top scoring in every match he plays during the 2011 World Cup, which starts on February 19. "I want to score my first century at Chittagong in the World Cup," he told the Daily Star. "I will try to be the highest scorer in every match in the upcoming World Cup." Two of Tamim's three ODI centuries have come at Mirpur, while his only away century was against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo. He has only played two matches in Chittagong, and narrowly missed out on a century in his last match there, in December 2010, when he smashed 95 against Zimbabwe. He will have two opportunities during the World Cup, with Bangladesh playing group games against England and Netherlands on his home ground. After a successful first half of 2010, in which he scored an ODI century against England and two Test centuries against them at Lord's and Old Trafford, Tamim underwent surgery on his wrist in September and had to miss Bangladesh's 4-0 home ODI series win against New Zealand. He returned for the series against Zimbabwe and the 95 he scored in the fifth ODI won Bangladesh the series. Bangladesh had a team practice in Chittagong on Friday, and Tamim said he was putting in long hours in the nets. "All of us are enjoying the sessions and the environment is also good. Now I am mentally relaxed and am practicing batting for a long time in the nets," Tamim said. "You will have good or bad days but we are all prepared to give our best. If we all do well, the team will gain from the tournament." Bangladesh will play a warm-up match against Canada in Chittagong, on February 12, and then another against Pakistan on February 15, in Mirpur. In the 2006-07 World Cup, Bangladesh stunned India in the first round, with Tamim scoring a half-century. Junaid Siddique, the left-hand batsman, hadn't yet made his international debut then, but he is expected to be Bangladesh's No.3 during this year's tournament, and is aware of how important their first fixture, against India in Mirpur on February 19, will be. "As Bangladesh will play the first match of the World Cup with India, we are trying to develop our performance," Junaid said. "I hope we will achieve the right result for the country." Junaid started his career as an opener, but has shifted down to the No. 3 spot in recent times. "Last one year I am playing at No. 3 and feeling comfortable in this position," he said. "I think those who are openers can suit themselves to any position." Junaid averages just 16.72 in ODIs he has played in as an opener, while at No. 3 his average is 33.57. Battle Plan : Spin is king Left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak has hit a purple patch of late, and he needs to be on top of his game in the World Cup to emulate his tremendous feat from four years ago. There is little doubt that the effort of the spinners was the key behind the Tigers success in the last two series against New Zealand and Zimbabwe. The slow bowlers took 56 wickets amongst them in the last eight matches; a statistic, which clearly shows how heavily the Bangladesh team are dependant on them. Nobody will hesitate to spot this as the strongest area of the Bangladesh team especially in limited-overs cricket. One can easily say that it's a comfort zone for Jamie Siddons' charges and that is the reason there are five spinners in the team in Shakib Al Hasan, Abdur Razzak, Sohrawardi Shuvo, Mahmudullah Riyad and Naeem Islam. Add to that mix Mohammad Ashraful, who can also turn his arm around for the occasional spell of leg-spin bowling. Of course the batsmen will have to play their part but Bangladesh's success in the coming World Cup will depend on the slow bowlers because it's expected that they will get the most help from the conditions that prevail in pitches here. In particular, all eyes will be on Shakib Al Hasan and veteran Abdur Razzak, who had a tremendous contribution during the 2007 World Cup in West Indies along with ace left-arm spinner Mohammad Rafique. But Shakib is still the most fancy weapon in Bangladesh's arsenal and his form is critical in a tournament expected to be dominated by batsmen. Without leading paceman Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, the inexperienced pace attack will definitely face a tough task against teams like India, South Africa and England and so the onus will be on the spin bowlers. Especially everybody would be looking forward to see how they handle the formidable Indian batting line-up. Shakib and Razzak are the proven fighters but it would be the biggest test for Riyad and Naeem and even Shuvo, if he does get the chance to play in any match. Shakib's main strength is his deathly accuracy no matter what the conditions and the left-armer can read any batsman very quickly while Razzak has become a much better bowler after changing his action. “It's better not to say anything about Shakib because he already proved his ability in any condition. But it is amazing the way Razzak has improved his bowling. Razzak is now a much better bowler after changing his action because he can control the ball much better,†said coach Mohammad Salahuddin, who has been working hard with Razzak ever since the bowler was suspended for an illegal action. He also said that Razzak developed more options in his bowling and he can now dip the ball perfectly. With his changed action, Razzak claimed 18 scalps in eight games in the later part of last year whereas initially he had only 11 wickets in 14 matches. “And just mind it, Razzak bowled most of the occasions in the Powerplay in his career which has given a great relief to Shakib. And his effectiveness with the new ball is also amazing. He is mentally very tough and he has proved time and again not only in the field but also off the field whenever he was suspended,†added Salahuddin. And his observation is also that Riyad and Naeem, the two off-spin all-rounder, have also improved a lot and brought different variation to their bowling. “Both the bowlers can now spin the ball and have good control of flighted deliveries. And in one-day cricket the most important thing is how accurate you are in your bowling,†observed Salahuddin adding that Shuvo has to improve his bowling. In the consideration of current form of the spinners there is a bright picture for the Bangladesh team and it's time to deliver at the big occasion now.

A player should aim to do the best for his team and country.. Being top scorer doesn't mean he contributed to anything .. He may get out playing bad shot after getting top score and his team may loose .. (they will lose anyways :D) .. Bangladesh will be getting out cheaply against top nations so getting top score is no big deal anyways :D There battle plan should be aimed more at minimizing the defeat margin .. They r going to lose by huge margins against all top nations so in order to quaify for QF they need to plan so tht they don't lose by huge margins .. cos NRR may be helpful for them in case WI make some blunder .. :) .. Their main test will be against other minnows and I can predict them losing to atleast one of them .. They should be happy tht they r given a chance to host WC.. anything over it is a bonus for them ..

He scores very quickly & his strokes are all cricket shots no sloging in his batting. I just hope he doesn't do well agaisnt SA just to put pressure on Smith & his mens yaar All in all he is a good player and needs to be watched out as well

India is a great team and are favorites to win the world cup. I support all the asian teams, so best of luck to India, I will be happy if India or Pakistan wins the world cup. Realistically speaking we have no chance against the giant India so i am not looking forward to the 19th, I will be happy if we beat the minnows and West Indies. Thank you and my sincere apology on behalf of those trolls
