CG Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Donkey is as Donkey does. As Fontaine is a donkey. Its for everybody to see what the team thinks of him shewag says everybody except sree did well in post match press conference ,i am hearing it for the first time after winning you say such things about a team mate. The current Team is full off UNEDUCATED people they do not know what they are speaking .
Lord Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 By mentioning the ER of Sree' date=' you showed that you didn't get the point I made. Let's not forget that Sree replaced PK, who is also known to swing the ball early on.[/quote'] PK is known for a)swinging the ball BOTH ways b)better accuracy c)better abilty to handle pressure I mentioned Sree's career coz I though u mistook for reacting for only one over I think your whole concept is flawed from assuming Bhajji to be one who goes for wkts to thinking that Zak and Sree are similar in their approach. Also the idea of having options and flexibility in bowling attack has escaped you. so Bhajji is supposed to go for wickets n just put a stop on runs?hes our senior bowler n on these wickets, hes absolutely the man to go for wickets never said Zak n Sree was similar, its just thier job what they r required to do.ofcourse Zak knows his job much better n bowls with a plan unlike Sree I think that Zak, Sree, Munaf and Nehra are somewhat different from each other, which is what gives the captain the flexibility even to pick the best combination we dont need Sree's kind of variety.thats for test matches.even Agarkar is better here.atleast he can bat n field better. flexibilty is good if each option has it merits has roughly equal chances of working.if I want flexibity in my bowling attack,i'll rather pick a leggie If Sree is playing, he is to pick up early wkts by what he does the best, i.e. swing the ball. To swing the ball he has to keep the ball up. I don't have to tell you that what does that mean. He shouldn't be criticized for leaking runs and/or bowling aggressively and going for wkts every ball. if he just concentrated on swinging the ball by consistent line n length,it'd been better.one four n he completely loses it.tries to go for bouncer, yourkers, inswingers.obviuosly either he doesnt know his job or just doesnt know how to do it While someone like Zak, who is more versatile, is good both at the start and at the death. Munaf is good option as first change and at the death because he looks to bowl line and length. Nehra is good at the death and effective if he gets the swing going. where is Sree good?once in 20 games where he gets swing, gets line n length right.problem is his inconsistency.n wen hes bad,hes awful, has no plan at all As the captain, I would rather prefer to go for a few runs early on in the quest to pick up wkts. In the first 12-15 overs, my main focus would be to pick 2-3 wkts than have the opposition at 70-80 for 1 or no loss, which is probably more risky when we have part-timers coming in to bowl later on. In the process to pick up early wkts, I am willing to accept a few risk. Based on what you have written so far, you are probably not able to grasp the concept being discussed here :winky: ofcourse wickets r the key early on,but that doesnt mean u have to take risk of going for a flurry of runs.Zak ,Munaf,Nehra are equally capable of taking wickets but they dont go for so many runs. if we r defending 300,what'd u like at 15 over mark?110-2 or 70-1?
Lord Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 As Fontaine is a donkey. Lord Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 the thread is massive wrist slitting reaction sree had a bad game, but some of his deliveries in the first spell were on the mark. the guy actually got some nice swing, unlike our other guys. had a review against tamim and the bangladeshis only got runs against him off crappy edges. this was just bad luck everyone knows sree is a confidence bowler, if he gets a wicket early he is a completely different bowler. if things go against him he struggles to find rhythm. the question u want to ask urself is whether u would rather have him in there ahead of nehra. i would prefer the 2nd spinner but sree is still better than nehra. c'mon 5 overs for 53 cant all be bad luck sure he got swing early on,got few inside edges, but then completely lost it,bowled short,no ball, wides what not.u expect any decent bowler to not lose heart by 1-2 fours n keep pegging away,is that too much to expect?just cant go in with a bowler who completely loses if initial overs dont go his way,in an important game.some control is needed
Manny_Pacquiao Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 i said he had a bad day. i am looking at the positives here. if u want to cut yourself and bleed, thats up to u. but there are some positive things to see here india are basically 1 decent bowler away from having a rock solid, near-unbeatable side. everybody else bowled well. remember that

For the last time, 1. PK is not in so the team management has to look for a bowler who can swing the ball early on, no? It's not about who can swing which way but picking the bowler from the available options to go for wkts with the new ball 2. The problem is with your assumption that Bhajji goes for wkts. If I am not wrong, many refer to Bhajji as a dart-thrower. 3. Which is why Zak is considered as a better bowler. The idea is not to replace Zak with Sree but give Ind more wkt taking option with the new ball 4. Spinners usually don't bowl with the new ball and in the PP. I can understand that you may want to pick a leggie but we are mainly discussing the new ball here, no? 5. Are you suggesting it is criminal for a swing bowler to try different things like yourkers, bouncers, esp since he also happens to be Ind's fastest bowler from the selected? If not then again your point is pointless 6. Again, the inconsistency/consistency comes in before squad selection. A captain has to pick from what available in the squad 7. Was Nehra available for selection in the game? And as I said, Sree was unlucky to not pick some early wkts. The BD batsmen had no clue on how to play his swing. Many of the runs were scored through edges. 8. Chasing 300, 110-2 or 70-1 after 15 is again a pointless question as someone like Sree bowls in the first 10 overs so if he picks up 2 "early wkts" the pressure would be on the opposition. Also the question is pointless because many teams would back themselves to get 8 or 9 an over from the last 15 overs, esp with the batting power-play available. At 70 for one after 15, then only need to play at 5 to 5.5 an over (which is not difficult at all w/ the part timers bowling) from 16th to 35th over to be able to get themselves into a position to get 8-9 an over from the last 15 overs. Which is why picking up wks is what turns the game Kindly develop better understanding for cricket and strategies to be able to grasp the idea presented and debate better. Thanks! :icflove:
b555 Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 people actually arguing so hardly over such a issue :D
b555 Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 but still @rett , the problem here is , once if it starts going his way , santh has it all going on his wy but once it goes against him like say he his hit for a couple of boundaries, he seems to lose his brains and balls and starts bowling all over the ground if not for that , he could surely be a very good fast bowler but thats the main quality where he is differentiated from the present giants in the field like lee and steyn etc even thought u are hit for a couple of boundaries, one can always come back and its like throwing the bowl so wide that keeper also cant catch it wont do much for your team or your brain surely if he cant control himself in such situations, we are in for some serious trouble against all good quality batting line ups which most of the top 8 odi teams seem to possess as of now
b555 Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 As Fontaine is a donkey. The Outsider Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Some of you are making Sreesanth sound like a reincarnation of Waqar - so what if he goes for a few runs, he is a wicket taker. He has the worst ever economy rate for an ODI bowler to have ever played the game, FFS!

Sooda Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Look lets face it there were no other options for the squad- Umesh Yadav? Vinay Kumar?? ISHANT??? And with Nehra injured/not bowling so hot right now, Sree has to play. Everybody has known he is not a good ODI bowler for a while- which is why he has only played a handful ODIs in the last 2 years I remember reading on Cricinfo (might have been elsewhere) about Indias camp for the WC and how they got a 'minor setback' with Praveens injury. And I thought to myself, it is a bit more than MINOR! Really the debate is whether another spinner should have been there instead. I am not sure.

I am not sure. in the two warm-ups the spinners performed quite well, so IMO at least one of them (Chawla or Ashwin) should have been given a chance against Bangladesh. We should go with two spinners in the Eng game.
zen Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 but still @rett , the problem here is , once if it starts going his way , santh has it all going on his wy but once it goes against him like say he his hit for a couple of boundaries, he seems to lose his brains and balls and starts bowling all over the ground if not for that , he could surely be a very good fast bowler but thats the main quality where he is differentiated from the present giants in the field like lee and steyn etc even thought u are hit for a couple of boundaries, one can always come back and its like throwing the bowl so wide that keeper also cant catch it wont do much for your team or your brain surely if he cant control himself in such situations, we are in for some serious trouble against all good quality batting line ups which most of the top 8 odi teams seem to possess as of now Agree w/ you. But because our bowling is weak, we cannot afford to be restrictive (mostly focused on bowling dot balls) and play safe most of the time because one good inning can change all that. If things don't go Sree's way (or primarily a wkt taking bowler) then we can just bring someone else on. By not playing a wkt taking bowler, who can swing the ball lethally, at all, Ind is not giving itself the option to even see if it can utilize that swing and deliver a few blows. You don't want to bowl someone who bowls to restrict first up even when the ball is swinging. Also note that we have to use Zak at the death as well so we need someone to go all out in the first few overs. If the ball is doing something under lights then it is good to have the option of using swing bowlers from both ends. If we are bowling in the afternoon and there is not much swing, we can adjust accordingly by having Munaf open the bowling. We have to see our bowling attack as a unit. A wkt taking swing bowler is the first weapon we use against the opposition. If it work then the pressure is on the opposition straight away. If it doesn't, we use another and so on.
zen Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Some of you are making Sreesanth sound like a reincarnation of Waqar - so what if he goes for a few runs, he is a wicket taker. He has the worst ever economy rate for an ODI bowler to have ever played the game, FFS! If he were a reincarnation of Waqar, there would have been no need to discuss this :winky:
yoda Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 He simply isn't a ODI bowler. If Dhoni keeps playing him, expect us to bow out sooner than later. He is single handedly capable of destroying the team's chances. And some here were claiming he is a better ODI option than Uncle Munaf who was made to look like Mcgrath by our beloved Sree. :hehe: He should be our last bowling option. We should go in with 3 spinners if need be instead of going in with Sree, especially on sub continental wickets.
The Outsider Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 There is one thing for a wicket taking swing bowler to be more prone to being expensive at times. Usually, the good ones have back up options and a brain to restrict the damage when things are not going their way. And then there is the Sreesanth way of being a wicket taking swing bowler in ODIs. When things are not going Sreesanth's way he is absolutely atrocious. The captain is not even left with the option of bowling him for 7-8 overs at 6 RPO. On these days he regularly gets clobbered for 7+ RPO. This is his bowling record since 2010 : http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/34274.html?class=2;spanmin1=01+Jan+2010;spanval1=span;template=results;type=bowling;view=innings An economy rate of 7.15 FFS! Notice the number of times he has been absolutely taken to the cleaners at 7,8,9,10 RPO. You can't play such a bowler in the knockout section of the tournament. He can single handedly lose you the game against good opposition. And an average of 37 suggests that the wicket taking part is also partly mythical.
Lord Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 For the last time, 1. PK is not in so the team management has to look for a bowler who can swing the ball early on, no? It's not about who can swing which way but picking the bowler from the available options to go for wkts with the new ball why cant Munaf take the new ball?swing without accuracy is useless.I'd much rather have Munaf who hits the deck,is accurate. It doesnt swing for long anyways on subcontinent tracks just because PK is succesful with the new ball, doesnt mean every swing bowler will be.to me,PK's strength more is accuracy then swing.so I'll replace his accuracy with Munaf's,not necessarily harp on swing 2. The problem is with your assumption that Bhajji goes for wkts. If I am not wrong, many refer to Bhajji as a dart-thrower. Bhajji is defensive wen track is flat,or conditions r not ideal.otherwise on Indian wickets,he flights it,gets spin n is a genuine wicket taking option 3. Which is why Zak is considered as a better bowler. The idea is not to replace Zak with Sree but give Ind more wkt taking option with the new ball control with new ball is as important.so if Zak is going for wickets I'll want the other one to exercise reasonable control. n that doesnt necessaarily mean that wicket taking chances r lessened. u seem to think that to go for wicket u have to go for it ever ball n try all sorts of things.I believe in sticking to a plan 4. Spinners usually don't bowl with the new ball and in the PP. I can understand that you may want to pick a leggie but we are mainly discussing the new ball here, no? yeah where did I say spinners have bowl with new ball.just about variety in the attack. 5. Are you suggesting it is criminal for a swing bowler to try different things like yourkers, bouncers, esp since he also happens to be Ind's fastest bowler from the selected? If not then again your point is pointless yeah for a swing bowler with new ball, hes supposed to concentrate on swing,no?being India's fastest bowler is nothing to boast of,hes hardly 140+.thats comfortable for most batsmen.specially is u dont concentrate on accuracy 6. Again, the inconsistency/consistency comes in before squad selection. A captain has to pick from what available in the squad yeah there were 2 options available, why is it mandatory to go with 3 seamers,if one is injured 7. Was Nehra available for selection in the game? And as I said, Sree was unlucky to not pick some early wkts. The BD batsmen had no clue on how to play his swing. Many of the runs were scored through edges. yeah unlucky, just as Virat was lucky as he inside edged one for four:haha:.5 off 53 for Sree must have been all bad luck, what about no ball n wides,he was unlucky that his foot slipped n batsmen didnt edge his wides? Which is why picking up wks is what turns the game Kindly develop better understanding for cricket and strategies to be able to grasp the idea presented and debate better. Thanks! :icflove: your point is IF he picks up early wickets?heard about probabilities?theres more chances of Sree leaking runs than picking up early wickets most teams would back getting 8-9 in last 15 ovs, agreed, its still difficult, few good overs n RRR can shoot up a lotbut with 110-2 they only need 190 in rest 35,can easily get 5 an over with part timers n build a partnership n will only need 6-7 on over in last 15 overs.thats far too easy, isnt it stop living in dreams where everything goes ur way n live in ifs n buts.learn the difference b/w tests n ODIs bbye, will reply tomorrow if required:icflove:
