^ Lol....what I meant was just because he is the only option doesn't make him the best option. I just don't get why a lot of ICFer's have high much expectations from him.As i said above he hasn't proven himself at the highest level.

Like Piyush. don't worry Ashwin will not be remotely crappy like Piyush. Infact nobody can be.
But again if you expecting wonders, you will be disappointed .and just as Chawla, you lot will soon be asking Ashwin to be left out. Typical supporters nowadays who think they are too clever for their own good.

Chawla was a controversial inclusion in the squad itself let alone playing XI for a good reason.

The 15th man was always going to be controversial inclusion. And I think we have got to give credits to the selectors for this decisions. After all, there were tons who wanted a batsman or second wicket instead of a 3rd spinner for the 15th player. So it was a great decision in taking the 3rd spinner and surely the likes of Chawla can rightfully be one of the best in that role. It was a good decision and now it is up to your training to show you deserve to be in the team

It was not a good decision cause he had hardly played any ODIs for more than a year prior to his inclusion in the 15 man squad.

When chawla took wickets in warm up against oz..Every one went gaga..Now he is durbhaaga
Exactly. He played himself into the side with that performance so what was the team supposed to do? Drop him after one poor game? Who do people think we are? Pakistan? Ashwin WILL get his chance against the WI. The question is if he sucks in one game then the same people will start turning against him and start calling for the next bowler to play and so on. What then? At some point selection doesn't matter. It's up to the players to perform. The reason why Ashwin is such a hot topic isn't that he's some legendary bowler who's taking wickets at a scorching pace. It's because the rest of our spinners suck right now, including Bhajji. Munaf Patel has more wickets and better figures bowling on these flat tracks than Chawla, Bhajji, Yuvraj and Yusuf. Think about that. Our most experienced front line spinner has been toothless while newbie or far less experienced bowlers in Indian conditions like Swann, Benn, Tahir, Afridi, and others have been outbowling our spinners including Bhajji.

If they really wanted an additional spinner logical choice would have been Pragyan Ojha not this guy who didn't exactly do anything in the domestic to merit a place. Even in the IPL he was cartered all over where as Ashwin finished with an impressive economy of 6.10 despite bowling inside power plays. In a T20 6.10 economy is outstanding. Then he won man of the series in champions league in south african condition. In the 7 matches he played he always took vital wickets. He had the added advantage of bowling in the power play. Logical choice should be Ashwin. it is another matter if he fails or succeeds. You cannot randomly pick a spinner and give him chance until he finds his touch. He is also a decent bat. Only downside is his fielding.

Variety? Why not as well pick a chinaman too just for the heck of variety? Never got Dhoni's love for variety... :headshake: Hopefully Ashwin will get a game but you never really know with Dhoni.

Ashwin will get the game against WI. Btw variety is good if you have quality bowlers, i.e. if you have Kumble and Hrbhajan, play them both by all means. But if you have two good off-spnners I would rather have them both than a crappy player just for "variety". SL won the cup in 1996 when they had Vass and a bunch of off-spinners in Murali, Dharamsena, Aravinda. Jayasuriya was the only variety in their spin. But if you are good variety doesn't matter. Ashwin and Harbhajan are different kind of off-spinners and batsmen will need to figure BOTH of them out it won't be like "they are both off-spinners so let me have a go against Harbhajan as I've already seen what Ashwin can do". In fact having Ashwin in the side will increase Harbhajan's effectiveness even more. Right now opposing batsmen have been able to play it safe against Harbhajan and just take singles knowing fully well that they have Chawla, Nehra and Munaf (at the death) to cash in. Ashwin will provide a control in the middle overs and will keep it tight so opposing batsmen will need to take a few risks against Harbhajan which is when Harbhajan is most effective. Plus Ashwin can bowl during the power-plays and at the death as his carrom ball is tough to figure and it will be tough for batsmen to go after him consistently.

I don't agree with this variety BS :nono:
Right now, the only varieties I can see in the playing XI are: (in the order of preference) 1. Strike bowler - Zaheer 2. Reputation crap - Bhajji 3. Economy crap - Munaf 4. Lottery crap - Nehra 5. Sure crap - Chawla It would be no harm to disturb this variety for the bigger cause of winning.

He is primarily an off spinner' date=' but his leg spinner spins more than Chawla's.[/quote'] Okay. If he is allowed to play matches and starts performing very well and starts taking more wickets than Bhajji (who is also and Off Spinner), then what happens? If the public starts loving Ashwin, then what happens? You can't play him in all the matches as sometimes situation will demand to play 3 seamers..
