f.b.m Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Yeah I really admire :punter: and Lee for their dedication and fighting spirit. One of the best WC batsmen to play the game.
Moncy Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Ricky Ponting will always be remembered for winning 2 WCs in a row as an aussie captain. I bet no other teams can accomplish this amazing feat for a long, long time. Punter and Lee, you guys will be sorely missed :((
Roshanrocks Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Well played Ponting... and well played the Aussies... Hard Luck Losing to paksitan and India the last 2 games
Sachin=GOD Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Pwnting  and to the mighty Aussie team   11 years and 11 months its been since they have been World Champions.
Watson87 Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 I feel it for Punter, what a legendary captain. Ponting's century in a losing cause, yet again :((
Karan114 Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 :hatsoff: to Ponting for producing it when it mattered even despite being in dreadful form, but the team wasn't good enough under pressure as a whole
pensionplan Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 GREAT RUN FOR PONTING. INDIA ENDED IT.. BUT HATS OFF TO ONE OF THE GREATEST CRICKETERS OF OUR ERA.. RICKY PONTING WELL PLAYED PUNTER - :two_thumbs_up: - ONE OF THE GREATESTAmen.
Anakin Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Why do we say bravo to :punter: while in the same situation we'll bash SRT as usual? @OP, it was a good knock indeed.
satishg Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 He fought a lot of battles first his form, then rumors about his captaincy, a spinning pitch which is not his forte and then the reality that his team is no where good as it used to be. He knew that he had to deliver today to even make a match of it and how well he delivered. I have always been biased wrt Punter because of my SRT loyalty but man i have to admit that it was a champion knock by Ricky and that actually showed how fiercely competitive this guy is. Great stuff from a great player! :hatsoff:
putrevus Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 what is this nonsense from media singing praises of Ponting for scoring 100 in a lost cause, where as sachin gets killed by the same press/fans for not seeing India thru to a win as if it was his fault Indian bowlers leaked runs and lost those matches.
pensionplan Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Honestly have to say that I thought it was a mediocre knock. okay.
pensionplan Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Surprised by some of these comments.. I thought he looked comfortable throughout and it was a great innings. When you consider that he was playing abroad, leading the side, knock out game in the WC, with wickets falling at regular intervals to play like that and get to a chanceless century it indeed is a fabulous knock.

He got a life from the umpire Erasmus at 91.
Manny_Pacquiao Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 i cant stand ponting, but he rose to the occasion magnificently today. the one thing i admire about the aussies is that they fight tooth and nail 'til the very end. there is never an easy win against them. same thing goes for SA. beating these teams is always a bit more enjoyable than beating the others because they make you work for it. i am sure india got a huge morale boost from this hard-fought victory, and it's good timing because with just 2 matches remaining this might spur them on to a world cup win.
EnterTheVoid Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 Some random ramblings 1. First off, that was a very gutsy century so hats off for that. That booing at the end was not on. I can understand why people may not like him, but Ponting is one the greatest players of the modern generation. come on man, out of form batsman, gutsy century, show some respect. 2. Lee played very well. As for Tait, that guy is an embarrassment of a bowler. For starters, he bowls in 2/3 over bursts and even in that time, manages to fit in wides/no balls. His primary purpose is to put a few bruises on the batsman, scare them off with his express pace. That type of sustained pace bowling match after match just doesn't work. Maybe in T20's but thats as far as it will go. 3. 3 World Cup Wins in a row. WOW. Thats world cup dominance. In 2003/2007, they were absolutely untouchable, absolute head and shoulders above the rest. And the 100's that Ponting/Gilchrist hit in the finals, thats just destructive batting at its best. No quality spinner, batsman out of form (drop that mofo clarke) meant that they couldn't get far this time around. I mean, beating minnows was enough to get into the quarter finals, big deal. Having said that, australia made a decent fist of it. fielding was absolute top notch, they were jumping/diving just to save singles which was good to see. 4. gambhir, what the hell were you thinking man. atrocious running. please fix it up before the next game. 5. i don't believe in law of averages and all that bull but for my money, india should make the final. i just can't see them succumbing to pakistan.
