julianlev Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 The rumours are now more than that Gary Kirsten has officially been offered the job of head coach for the Proteas Doubtless it will take a while for any desicions to be made, but as a Protea fan I'm optimistic His family will come first, as it should be, but after that we're all hoping to see Gary back on native soil BTW congratulations to India on your second WC victory, thoroughly deserved I can now take some small joy in knowing that we were your only pitfall on the path to victory Looking forward to IPL now, see you there :hatsoff:

We did it with John Wright and then with Gary - both turned out to be outstanding successes so now both are in demand. BCCI has get to kudos here for hiring both of them, Greg was hired on Ganguly's recommendation but they have to get some credit for these two hires.

I dont understand it fully But if memory serves we already had a coach when Gary was available, and we were doing quite well at the time, so there was no need for a major shift But our coach is retiring now, and the offer has been made As for "piggybacking" we were interested in him long before the world cup, but knew that he was going to stay in India until it was over

You cannot become coach of a team simply when you want to, a lot of circumstances have to fall in place. Besides, he may have been inspired by the challenge of coaching a team like India to glory.

Besides, he may have been inspired by the challenge of coaching a team like India to glory. u misunderstood.the point was about leaving his country n coaching India against his own country.if he was so patriotic,he wouldnt have accepted the job,right?the players love him,the country hails him,no reason why he'll leave n be a coach of SA with lower salary.Its clear he just wants to spend time with his family

Gary Kirsten is still South African, and would probably not take kindly to you refering to his old team like that. It doesn't make much sense to praise a man, yet mock the origin of his career.
