Ganguly & Dravid deserve more credit for this WC

I heard that VVS Laxman's case was pushed strongly by Azharuddhin during mid-late 90's!!!!
Nope it wasn't! In fact VVS was made a sacrificial lamb under Azhar by forcing him to open. It was only under Ganguly he was brought in as middle order bat and flourished.

Sorry but we were favourites only among the media ,we had lots of short coming apart from our batting and every Indian fan knew about that ,it was just a supreme effort from the boys who pulled off 3 crucial games brilliantly and won us the cup. Past legends count for nothing when you get caught up in the pressure situations in the knock out matches and if you are trying to imply we got players like Yuvi,Zak,Viru and Bhajji under Dada captaincy thats why he should be credited,then sorry I dont buy that arguement .
No my Point is Under Sourav after the match Fixing Scandal we started off as 6th team in the World. Now had we not won the WC we would have been one of the Top 2 or 3. So thats the transformation i am talking about.

Towards the end of Ganguly's captaincy, India was ranked number 8 in the ODI rankings. We were higher than only Zim, Bang and Kenya. Check the rankings if you want. We were worse than than we were in the 90s, when we lot of lot of tournaments.

I dunno about that. the self-belief in this team is very obvious and we have won much more close games than lost recently. This has only been possible over a period of last 2 years with a string of good performances both home and overseas and this belief had carried forward into the world cup during the knock out stages when it was do or die

I'll get back after Checking the Rankings, dont think we were that bad. But that doesnt take the credit away from Ganguly that he backed the youngsters who won us the WC.

Who is denying Dada of that contribution in Indian cricket :wall:,he took us out of the most troubled times of match fixing along with Dravid,Kumble ,Sach and Srinath but here we are talking about credit in a WC victory which belongs only to the 15 who were playing . Past legends will always be remembered for their contribution in Indian cricket and chill yaar KKR will win the next game :icflove:

Ya self-belief was the real strength ,as Dhoni also pointed out in many of his press confrences,team always had one player who stood up in difficult time and won us the game .And plus the will to win shown by this team in KO matches was amazing,watching us field the way we were doing just told me we cant lose this and WC is ours this time around :two_thumbs_up:

No one would be making an iota of sense if he/she says that Ex legends went to the Ground and won us the WC. Its the 15 who played in the WC, But somewhere behind there is More to the force we have at our disposal now. Its the Foundation of Team India. Yar if this continues I'll stop watching Cricket :sniffle:

Ganguly's last match as captain (September 2005) http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/218250.html India's ODI ranking in 2005 Jan-April-->number 8 May-Sep-->number 7 http://icc-cricket.yahoo.net/match_zone/odi_ranking.php?year=2005
Thanks for that piece, No doubt he was not half as not good as he was in in the first 4 Years. But that doesnt take the credit away from the fact that he Laid the Foundation of Team India and thats why he is been credited for.

In fact, I see a lot of people trying to take credit away from the current team (especially Dhoni). The guys mentioned (also Kumble) have made incredible contributions over the years. No one has or will forget that. However, this moment belongs to the current 15. The guys in the squad get the medal and the credit.
Agree. Ganguly has contributed a lot during his captaincy to Team India. But the fansbois who are jumping in to claim credit for the win on Dada's sake, would they have asked for Ganguly to share the blame for failure if India had lost the WC, if India had lost the SF, if India didn't make it past the league stages? Would they have entered the thesis, that much of our woes can be traced back to Ganguly? No. So if you don't want to take responsibility for the failure don't ask for credit in the victory. Credit for the victory should go to the ones who would have been burdened with the blame and shame in case they had lost. "Success has many fathers, failure is an orphan."

Even Ricky Ponting won not one but 2 Wc's but did he have a vision for the future ....We all see the result....Ganguly took a young and inexperenced team mixed with a lot of youngsters to the finals of 2003 worldcup and 8 years after that half those team members are the seniors or major players n this winning squad. If Dhoni retains the cup in 2015 when some of the players have either retired or on the end of their careers he can definetely claim he is greater than Ganguly,Imran Khan,Mark Taylor,Clive Lloyd etc

Apart from Ganguly all the other captains have a WC Title, so what's with the grouping?

Arey kyoun is choti si baat per daleel kar rahe ho. Both were Indians and both lead the team to new heights. Can't we just be happy with that? Instead of creating such threads which lead to unreasonable mud slinging arguments.
