As far as performance in the Tamsha goes, even if he did perform well I wouldn't attach any weight to these performances.

He had already lost his pace..even when he was in India team. After getting dropped..he didnt get his pace back...& now he is still in that same slow pace. I dont think he ever will get that back. Batting..maybe he might get some confidence & score some runs...but IMO..will not be enough to get into Team India.

For me, real cricket=tests To he rated, you need to be a top test player. Pathan hasn't performed in test cricket. He was a minnow basher. Look at his test stats exc them: 25 tests 61 wickets Avg 45 Strike rate 83 That is POOR. No other words. If he can improve his bowling, he can maybe play as the 3rd seamer who bats in limited overs cricket. Not good enough for tests. He wasn't even good enough at his best.

Pathan last played first-class cricket over one year ago! After that there was IPL3 and then the injuries. It was a phacking ludicrous purchase from Delhi, but screw them what about the cricketer himself... If the guy doesnt play serious first-class cricket he will get nowhere. He needs to finish this tamasha quickly (looks like it will for Delhi anyways :giggle:) and knuckle down.

I think he was a very good bowler and I remember he did well on consecutive tours to Australia and Pak. His hatrick in Karachi is stuff of legend though India ended up losing that thriller He had pace, swing and a decent line and length. These are the 3 ingredients you need to be a successful bowler in my opinion. And for a while he was on his way to join a good club of bowlers Unfortunately when your management decided to turn him into an allrounder he lost his way with his bowling and was never a good enough batsmen for his batting to bail him out. You can blame Greg Chappel for that. I even remember him OPENING the batting in some tests! :omg: I also think that SreeSanth has some of thse qualities esp pace and swing. Though his line and length can be all over the place. But his childish annoying attitude and lack of support from Dhoni isnt helping him either.

You're talking about a few instances that I described as having "his moments". At the end of the day, what counts is your overall record. His record is not good enough. Did well in Australia? I wouldn't look into it too much since it was his first tour but you can't put that down as a success. What he showed was potential. One delivery to remove Gilly does not make a series. He got smashed out of sight in Adelaide. I'm sure someone can dig up his stats for those 2 tests. I'd be amazed if his bowling average wasn't more than 50. Yes, he did well in Pakistan. That was the only series in his career against a decent side where he bowled well. The Perth test was very good but I'm only looking at a series where he did well.

He can be more like a 2nd change bowler. But i am going to give him benefit of doubt. As long as he played for India atleast with bat he showed lot of resolve and guts. He gave 100% as long as he played for India. Lot of Indian supporters wish him to do well because he provides incredible balance to the line up. Imagine Irfan can bowl as well Zaheer khan or even Nehra which is not hard act to follow you would think considering Irfan has something to work with. You would have Irfan walk in at no.8 and Bhajji at no.9. It provides lots of flexibility.

His technique is very good for a lower order batsman - some of his fifties in Test cricket came against good attacks under pressure, showing a lot of resilience as you say. But his bowling just wasn't good enough at Test level.

Irfan was very talented...& his performance was not 2-3 games....but he made a lot of mistake...as happens to young fast bowlers in India. The coaches make them lose their pace...so that they can bowler so called line & lenght. Pathan himself wanted to swing the ball so much...that he ended up losing his pace plus swing. He then made himself usefull by being a good hitter....but that also didnt lasted long. Injury & early return from injury resulted him getting injured again. Plus DD paying such a huge price on him..putting that extra pressure...he cant handle. But I hope he do good. But dont play for India any more. IPL & first class games is where I will like to see him Again the same bullshit, once talented does not mean always talented.Very odd considering for the last 7 years, people like you are still talking about the ""potential" in the "young" player Pathan. If his batting fails, people talk about his "great" bowling. If his bowling fails, people talk about his "great" batting. But in reality, he is really average in both departments and has shown absolutely no scoop in improvement.
