Atlas Shrugged - Part I

Anyone seen the movie? Been reading mixed and rather extreme reviews. Would like to hear reviews from some ICFers who have read the book before I decide to go watch, which I probably will anyways. :--D

I have read the book.Ayn rand's philosophy is not applicable to present day society(we need to be more evolved imo).we cannot have a society where everybody puts their "self interest" above all else and hope society can survive and sort itself out,humans are too selfish,greedy and destructive for that to work.Just look at what the banks have doen with their money(and money which they dont have)without proper regulation.the book is interesting and i will watch the movie when it comes out on DVD.

As for the books, i personally prefer the Fountainhead myself. Rand herself is a very interesting character.

Saw the movie last night. Pretty decent. Worth seeing if you liked the book although I am not sure if they have or even will be making the other 2 parts. I heard they rushed this one due to some copyright deadline. Dagny Taggart and Hank Rearden are the main characters of the first part.

Have read Fountainhead - didn't enjoy it at all. It was too preachy for my liking. Personally, prefer something from the likes of Camus, Sartre, or Conrad who could get into much more philosophical depth without resorting to preaching the reader about the rights and wrongs of things and let the reader make up his mind. Some brilliant works from them would be "The Outsider" and "Fall" (Camus), "Lord Jim" (Conrad), and "No Exit" (Sartre). No Exit is actually a play rather than a novel, but it's my personal favorite.
