Guest Gunner Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Please elaborate. I'm not familiar with this whole North-South divide. Which states are considered to be South India (the ones that make up the South Zone in the Duleep Trophy)? Yes. These states can never benefit with a coach from the "hindi speaking belt". The nepotism would be unbelievable. Therefore a foreign coach is the most neutral option.

Bradman99 Posted April 28, 2011 Author Posted April 28, 2011 Son, it's called globalisation. Get past the narrow parochial thinking, you are living in a different world. Going forward all these nationalities etc won't even mean anything. Look at the big picture. PS: Would you also say that you should marry within your own nationality? Just curious. It's completely different. I'm all for globalisation, I'm all for marrying people from different cultures. I think you're the one here who is trying to put words in my mouth, calling me a narrow minded thinker. Just because it is a different opinion to yours mate.. I'm sorry I didn't realise everyone had to have the same opinion otherwise they are narrow minded! Representing your country in a sport is different, it is representative of how good that country is. Therefore, I think the coach should be of that nationality as he is also representative of that country.
yoda Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 BTW, I am surprised Kapil is asking who Duncan Fletcher is. Duncan Fletcher, captain of Zimbabwe, 1983 WC 17-5, 175* - something should ring a bell. :winky:

jonas10 Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 In the next 20 years Subcontinent will also improve managerial wise as the players being coached by the Whitmores Kirstens of the world will be ready to be coaches themselves and implement Western methods of management. Currently Dev explained exactly why an Indian coach is not the best option. The largest amount of the team may currently be Punjabi-origin (Bhajji, Yuvraj, Gambhir, Kholi, Sehwag etc) but then you definitely risk alienating a percentage of the South Indian contingent. These are problems that the English/Australian even South African teams dont really gotta worry about. But even if 1 South Indian or another player perceives a North Indian only culture in the team and it affects his performance its not a good thing. Therefore currently the best option is a foreigner with no concept of these stupid internal Indian issues who will pick the best 11 not based on regional lines.
The Outsider Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 But even if 1 South Indian or another player perceives a North Indian only culture in the team and it affects his performance its not a good thing. Yeah, makes sense if the propensity of Tamils to play the victim card on this forum can be extrapolated.

The North-South divide exists not in real but only in the minds of a few who have spend all there lives exclusively among people of there community . Do you really believe that bringing a North Indian coach would minimize the chances of South Indian players in the team ? LOL. Many here dont realize that in India more than the coach a captain has the highest say in the team's selection . Most of the Punjabi guys in the Indian team were brought in by a Bengali Captain and he supported them right through his career , gave them the chance to excel at the top level . Going by the regional logic we should have seen more Bengali player in the team during Ganguly's era but nothing of that sort happened and the team remained mixed up . And if there is someone who has a bias for players from his region then thats Selector Srikanth thanks to whom n number of chances were given to rubbish players like Murli Vijay . Srikanth wasnt even helping his so called south Indian contingent but his own state players , there were serious doubts raised over Srikanth's tactics against players from Karnataka as he repeatedly ignored the performances of Karnataka based players in the team , opting for a failure Tamil Nadu player like Murli Vijay over Uthappa and Manish Pandey is the clear evidence.

NareshK Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Maybe some Lungis are thinking that getting a foreign coach is going to increase the chances of " Lungi " players make it to the National team ' date=' however the truth is that the team will always be predominantly North Indian + Maharashtrian ( especially Mumbai) . Lungis , No amount of coaching can get your nobodies local stars in the Indian side for a longer run . Physical inferiority is going to haunt you guys in a longer run , so leave cricket and get on with playing feminine sports like chess , badminton which coincidently you are very good at.[/quote'] Among the stalwarts of Indian cricket, Sachin, Ganguly, Dravid, Kumble, Laxman, Srinath or even Zaheer none of them are North Indians. You can produce more T20 gully cricketers like Shikar Dhawan or some losers while we continue playing test cricket which is what matters. :two_thumbs_up:

Can anyone spot the irony? This bigotry is so inbuilt into the average north Indian mind that no matter what they say it is clear to everyone that it exists. I rest my case, this is why neutral foreign coaches are appropriate for India.
EnterTheVoid Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 I think they should just hire the right guy for the job. Sounds pretty far fetched and radical but you can thank me later.

NareshK Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Yeah dude the average North Indian bigotry has prevented tailunts like Badrinath from becoming Tendulkar. :(( You will never know if he would become another Tendulkar if he was dropped after playing only 2 tests despite having an average of 62 + in domestic cricket, can you ? Compare that to the chances Yuvraj got in Tests despite his pathetic performances. I rest my case.
Guest Gunner Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Yeah dude the average North Indian bigotry has prevented tailunts like Badrinath from becoming Tendulkar. :(( Don't [play daft with me, you read what that guy said and this inherent bigotry is what I pointed out. If you want to hide your head in the sand and say it doesn't exist I am fine by it. Can you actually say with a 100% confidence that there is no bigotry between people of the north and south of India?

Have foreign coaches if you think they are capable but to say that we can't have indian coaches 'coz of regional divide is utter crap. As of now indian cricket set-up looks professional enough to give equal chance to all players. Coach or captains can't do much about that.
