Gotta say Tiwari doesn't offer lot of confidence Powerplay is being wasted Pathan almost scored all the runs in this partnership wow.. this tiwary is truly a crap player.. he was playing like a douchebag against ozzs aswell.. jairamesh Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 I think S Tiwary should be given another go, a more consistent go....after all he has an excellent one domestic record at good strike rate, and is more mature than some of you give credit to him ...didn't he lead the unfancied Jharkhand to indian one-day champions! at just 21! I think his unorthodox style and ability against the short ball is a valuable asset.

They were only confirmed when you had to dig the scorecard to come up with tidbits to prove your case. Let me break it down to you one more time – I saw the game, both live and the highlights and I can tell you for a FACT – Tiwary wasn’t struggling to put bat to ball. He was doing what was EXACTLY asked of him – Holding one end up while Yusuf was going bonkers at the other end. That is the ESSENCE of sensible ODI batting. He was struggling to rotate the strike and putting pressure on YP in the process. He did not bat well in that match. YP has to take 99% credit for us winning that match. I definitely remember that match as i had a lot of money on India to win, Tiwary was struggling. He was called up for national colours far too early and if i remember correctly his attitude is not great. I remember there was an article on cricinfo about him not wanting to warm up properly.

People here throw out MC-BC gaalis when a batsmen plays out a dot-ball for God’s sake.. So much for credible sourcing..:hysterical:

As a packaged player, Irfan offers just that. No captain would trust him during the middle and late overs. Mishra's spot was in contention (refer previous posts) but in the last series he took 18 wickets in 6 games whereas Ojha managed 5 in 5. Ojha as a defensive spinner if fine, but Mishra is the attacking option whereas Bhajji and Ashwin play the containment role. Having said that, had Ojha been selected it wouldn't have been to much of a problem either. And as for Sir Jadeja, a cameo of 20-30 across a couple of matches in the IPL isn't exactly a litmus test for batting. When people run out of credible arguments, that’s when the numbers begin to come out..:hysterical:

The highest it ever went to, during their p'ship was 9, that too for only one over. Tiwary played out a lot of dot-balls because that he didn’t have to take risks to score, because Yusuf was doing all the damage at the other end. You have to be monumentally stupid to try to go at run a ball or above, when the batsmen at the other end is going bonkers and the required RR dropped to almost 7 by the 43rd over. If anything, for such an unlikely chase, the pair of the batsmen out there looked remarkably composed and calm and at no point during their p'ship, did they look out of control. But hey, how does all that matter? All you need is a few comments from fellow icf-ers. :hysterical:

Calling for crapthan and his 125kmph lollipos is shocking. Jadeja maybe worth a recall as decent tight bowler and his batting may have improved Vinay Kumar is awful selection.

A batsmen is struggling, when tries to score runs, but cannot, but for various reasons. My whole point is this – During his p’ship with Yusuf, Tiwary didn’t play a shot in anger till the last 2 overs. People here are interpreting it as a sign of struggle, while I am saying the exact opposite – He was simply following the script because, he never had the need to score runs at all, during the p’ship because Yusuf was doing so much colossal damage at the other end. To me, that is a sign of maturity beyond years, because most other youngsters playing their debut series would have simply panicked, played a rash shot and hold out in the deep. It was only when the game was well and truly in the bag and Yusuf had gotten his 100 and wanted to be not out, did he take over in the final 3 overs and closed out the game. He could have attacked before if he wanted to, but that would have been suicidal.

Even if some impatient posters are doing MC/BC in a match thread, there are also some posts taking the other side. This was near unanimous. There is no one who has come out citing or supporting that innings then or now, except you. In the absence of a recording or even the highlights (not that they will do much and will have only hits by Pathan) what evidence can I put forth which you will not discredit? Try going through the ball by ball commentary on cricinfo as well (if that meets your standards) and see for yourself how often he missed out taking a single - you don't score 17 off 30 without missing lots of singles. Anyhow, seeing that you are the only one who is praising that knock and coupling that with your bias for Tiwary I think I've got the answer.
