"I think it is time that Rahul can become the Prime Minister," Singh said, talking to PTI. "Rahul is now 40 and he has been working for the party for the last seven to eight years," Singh said. The scion of Gandhi family had the right qualities, instincts and experience to take up the mantle of the prime minister-ship now, Singh said. He rejected the contention that he himself was doing the politics of minority appeasement. When he was the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, he had taken action against both the SIMI as well as the Bajrang Dal, Singh pointed out. "When chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is felicitated by Muslims, that is not called appeasement, but when I went to Azamgarh, I was opposed by the Ulema council on one hand and RSS-BJP on the other." About another former Madhya Pradesh chief minister, Uma Bharti, who recently returned to BJP, Singh said it must not be forgotten that she once maintained that she would not be `true to her parents' if she went back to the party. 1983-2011 Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 don't worry congress will produce another leader who will be able to stay in power for 10 years like MMS, it's just unfortunate that BJP can't produce any leaders to lead the country, they have only ruled india for 6 years in 64 years since independence:giggle:

In a related news, HT pulished results of a survey according to which "As many as 46% of people believe that Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi will make a better prime minister than incumbent Manmohan Singh". However what will worry the congress is this from the survey "The survey, however, said that between Rahul Gandhi and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Narendra Modi, 53% opted for the chief minister of Gujarat. " Another key findings from the survey The survey said that disenchantment against the Congress-led central government was significantly higher in urban areas, among the college educated and upper castes."It is ironical that these are the very same sections that rooted heavily for the Congress in 2009. Under the present regime, the Congress seems to have lost the goodwill of the informed public." And made the headline as "Indians want Rahul as PM: Survey". This is how Indian media works. If 53% opted for NaMo, then how Indians want Rahul as PM is beyond my understanding.

In the Indian political landscape today, it is more important to accommodate every group, even those with opposing view points under one umbrella. If you stick to ideology, you will be a small time regional party like the Shiv Sena or the various Left factions. To be a national party, you must have only one ideology: you have to be willing to accommodate all ideologies. Not having an opinion is the first step in leading a national party .

Voters won't know what he stands for. Ironic that Rahul has no real opinions but speaks a lot, and Dr.Manmohan Singh has many opinions but behaves as if he's gagged. There's an old adage: Its better to keep quiet and let people think you are a fool, than to open your mouth and confirm it for them. Rahul has taken this to heart.
ganeshran Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Its not just lack of opinion - Rahul has hardly done anything to be considered for the top post. He should serve as minister first where his performance and capability can be judged. I would consider Chidambaram or Pranab for PM post after MMS.
