Prakat Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 No it was Gould. Later camera caught that Gould and Harper discussing the height. Gould and Harper both seemed to agree that Ball was still rising and on Bishoos chest at the time when ball went past him Cool. Tx.
Chandan Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 Bravo would have been out. The edge was visible on replay. Raina would not have been out since there was enough evidence to overrule the umpire. As for Chanders' date=' which one are you talking about ?[/quote'] So you've decided to act naive? Ok. Without hotspot, Bravo would not have been ruled out. It is as simple as as that. UDRS does not work on replays alone. Raina would NOT have been given NOT OUT as once again there was no hot spot to prove the umpire wrong. It is umpires who deserve the flak for their miserable showing. BCCI's stubbonness regarding DRS need not be mixed here to cover umpires' pathetic performance.

Hot spot or not if the edge is visible he will be given out. On the other hand, if it can be conclusively seen that there was no edge, he will be given not out. Either ways batsman have a chance of correcting the wrong with udrs. As for hot spot, that only arises if the replays were inconclusive. In both cases, it was conclusive enough to overrule the ump. But if you can quote me something ftom the regulations that says without the hot spot, third umpire cant change the decision, i would be more than happy to accept your point
ravishingravi Posted June 24, 2011 Author Posted June 24, 2011 For the recrd, i think india's stand is right on hot spot.
EnterTheVoid Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 Chandan, DRS is there to negative the mistakes umpires make out of incompetence. If UDRS was available in Sydney, 9/10 decisions that went against India would have been overturned.

If UDRS was available in Sydney, 9/10 decisions that went against India would have been overturned. But it was not available in Sydney. India was the first country to experiment with it when it had some pretty ridiculous rules. And after that Hawk eye system has not been able to convince either the Indian players or the administrators and rightly so. The day hot spot is available to every broadcaster, I'm sure BCCI will gladly accept it.
jairamesh Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 Is the 2.5m rule still in place? because batsman will just plonk themselves forward knowing the Hawk Eye will reprieve them.
EnterTheVoid Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 Chandan, as things stand at present, umpires + DRS (even with it's short comings) gives me more peace of mind than just umpires alone.
cowboysfan Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 the only thing i agree withese guys is that the UDRS should be uniform.ICC will find it very difficult to change the mind of BCCI if hotspot is not avaiilable in the sub-continent.
cowboysfan Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 Is the 2.5m rule still in place? because batsman will just plonk themselves forward knowing the Hawk Eye will reprieve them. its been tweaked a bit, umpires have more discreetion now.
ravishingravi Posted June 24, 2011 Author Posted June 24, 2011 You show me the instances or even one instance in any recent test match where edge has been given after umpire gave not out' date=' WITHOUT the aid of hot spot.[/quote'] Burden of proof is on you. As far as i am concerned, if there is a bat pad catch and ump gives it not out which is referred to by bowler and if one can see a clear edge, i cant see any reason why it will not be overturned. To reiterate my point, if there is a regulation relating to hot spot, bring it to my knowledge. Otherwise there isnt much to discuss. But if your point is necessity of hot spot for greater accuracy, i m with you

The Outsider Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 Same is Dhoni's decision too. How could the DRS have helped? I feel the role of the non striker is crucial now - none of the teams have caught on to it yet, but the non striker should watch out for a no ball. If DRS is in place he can immediately ask for a referral and even if it is not in place, he can advise the umpire to check for the no ball (the umpire can fo that now, even without the DRS).
Cricket Tragic Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 Why don't they have only hot spot and the mat to decide where the ball pitched? The BCCI is happy with it. That would ensure issues with inside edge/pitching outside leg LBWs and catches behind the wickets are sorted. It's better than not having it at all.
f.b.m Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 The only legitimate quote in the entire article is "If correct decisions were made' date=' the game would have ended much earlier and we would have been in the hotel by now" - rest are all attributed to 'unnamed sources and cricketers'[/quote'] Thank you. Its amazing how people complain about media on the one hand and believe everything that they say the next minute.
Gotham Cronie Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 The thing is would UDRS help in Dhoni's case?? How would he know it was no ball. Similarly Bravo decision, there is not hot spot, it could have gone in his favor even with UDRS. Only thing I see is Raina and bhajji decision overturned. You'll see some players from other teams at the non-strikers end actually looking at the bowler's landing mark when he's bowling in case of this.

Three key obstacles for universal usage: 1) Costs 2) Military Technology from Australia (Only UK/NZ have Defence tech agreement in place, to use unrestricted). 3) Due to no. 2, a host country can't have it more than 2 weeks or something. It was on demo in India in the CL09 for 10 days.
Gotham Cronie Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 ^no its accurate. BCCI is not happy with inconsistency. For example' date=' if ball is clipping the leg stump and umpire has given not out, it stays not out. And if it happens again, if ball is clipping the leg stump, same umpire gives out, its referred and it stays out. So there is lack of consistency. Both should be either out or not out.[/quote'] There is consistency. If it's not 100% hitting the stumps, it stays with the umpires call. Simple.
