deepak_sach Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 I cannot understand one thing. How can you say the likes of Andy Roberts,Malcolm Marshall,Imran Khan,Joel Garner were fast....? They were tall and threatening no doubt. But is there any proof they were fast... From what i Have seen andy roberts seems to be 130-135 by his run up...... Imran khan around 130-135 By just the word of batsman who got hit by the bouncers how can you say they were fast..... Even Abhimanyu Mithun seems to be running in fast but bowls only 80 mph... But Varun Aaron,Umesh Yadav,Kemar Roach these bowlers have a lethargic run up and are not too tall but still bowl 90 mph..... JUDGEMENT:No speedguns,no predictions that the WI bowlers were fast in the 80's AGREE?
ravishingravi Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 ytNOth31K60&feature=related Yeah this guy was like our Mithun
Serani Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 deepak sach clearly knows nothing about cricket from his posts...Im not even going to bother giving an answer. Now deepak sach you tell me if you think this doesnt look very fast... m8tFgtzeA2M
Lurker Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Modern day Indian fans continue to make India, and Indians, look like a pack of jokers.
The Outsider Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Modern day Indian fans continue to make India' date=' and Indians, look like a pack of jokers.[/quote'] Actually, this is a lot of fun - I'll wait for the arguments from people who are calling Lindwall a trundler to justify the Marshall, Holding, Lillee were not.

[/quote'] Dont count on it. They would try to prove Kallis was faster than Marshall just because from behind Kallis rear end moved faster from one side of his hips to other in exactly 0.03 seconds.:giggle: Better still they may even add a POLL for it!
Cricket Tragic Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 The guy is trolling and people are falling for it.
vvvslaxman Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Two reasons. One they were freaking good. Two pitches had more life those days. Nowadays they have died down. Ambrose did struggle on flatter surfaces. He couldn't extract the same bounce on certain surfaces hence his strength was somewhat nullified. Even Malcom Marshall did not enjoy bowling on pitches that were dead. Sunny dismantled him at Feroza Kotal scoring 94 ball century in Tests. What you see these days is most of the pitches are dead. Even Perth pitch has no life. During 1983 tour Marshall did struggle on flatter surfaces like Chennai, Delhi. . Holding also made a comment about sunny that he can score only on flatter pitches.

He also thinks like a 17 year old by the way. :giggle:
rkt.india Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 they all were not very fast and had their own qualities and still were fast enough..like Thomson, Holding, Roberts, and Marshall were fast, especially Thomson is one of the fastest bowler ever. Garner was tall though not as fast as others mentioned above. Thomson was 95+ mph bowler while quite a few can be termed as 85-90 mph bracket.
jairamesh Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 bPDW7hj1yfs Jeff Thomson, Fastest: 147.9 km/hr, average: 142.0 km/hr Mike Holding, Fastest: 141.3km/hr, average: 135.3 km/hr Imran Khan, Fastest: 139.7 km/hr, average: 138.3 km/hr Nothing special. What made them special was the uncovered pitches in those days, none of these doctored pitches with no cracks and grass.
Serani Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 You cant compare that kind of technology with todays.
The Outsider Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Nothing special. What made them special was the uncovered pitches in those days, none of these doctored pitches with no cracks and grass. Do you know when pitches became covered?
jairamesh Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 You cant compare that kind of technology with todays. And yet it's okay to compare these past players without any proof. Talk about hypocrisy.
The Outsider Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011  Mods please delete this thread Huh? Why? The OP is asking a genuine question - much like some people claim Lindwall was a trundler, he is claiming Lillee was a trundler. What conclusive evidence do you have to prove that Lillee was not a trundler besides the words of some old foggy and videos with no speed guns?
