King Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 A few of them are playing for thier places and how quickly the wickets have gone down in the past tests India didn't want to take a chance. What's wrong with that? The outfield is slow, the pitch is still testing and not tailor made of shot making. I don't quite see how India would have gone after the bowling. If the test match ends in a draw it is because of the rain and not slow batting by India.

Stop defending the indefensible. you know as well as me that they could have reached 280 yesterday itself. Wow that's awesome. In gloomy light with the ball reverse swinging let's start slogging in the last 10 overs. This is one of dumbest things I've heard in a long time.
Fontaine Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 The POINT is...while we appreciate the PROCESS that got them to number #1 we are less than satisfied with margin of some Test victories say like the tour of NZ where our PROCESS resulted in 1-0 victory when it could have easily been 2-0. Its one thing to achieve #1 ranking and another to maintain it. If you're not going to take the opportunity to win against sides like WI even after securing your position in the match, then criticism is inevitable. Speak for yourself. And their doing just fine maintaining their number 1 ranking. Instead of criticizing our batsmen a far more valid point would be the complete lack of preparation provided by the BCCI when it's been clear that everyone in the top order has struggled to adjust to the steep bounce and pace of the wickets.

Our approach on day 4 four was defensive and it didnt look like we wanted to win this test match. Australia would have pushed for a result if they were no.1 team. I think somehow the killer instinct is missing in our approach. Do they really play for a result?

Losing wickets quickly and being all out for far less was a real risk thus giving Windies a real shot at victory. B) Accumulate carefully, respecting the pitch and bowling, and batting well into day 5 where runs start to count double thus permitting India to set a lower target of 300 from 75 overs. India have 'bought' a guaranteed push for victory at the expense of 15 overs.

Where was that attitude when they came to India and bowled part timers to avoid a ban?

We dont play to maintain No.1 ranking.We play to win the test series and to gain points.Where we thinking about points when we won the series against Aus in 2001? The only thing that matters is we ensure we win the WI series regardless of margin and ensure that our youngsters progress.Not meaningless points and rankings.

If it were Kohli and Raina or Dhoni at the crease, the 0's would've been 1's, and the 1's would've been 2's. Anyway, I think Dhoni will look for the win. He is an aggressive and proactive captain and he'll certainly look to smash the ball around early tomorrow. nope. Still 'nope'?

The reason India is number 1 is because as Kirsten/Dhoni have repeated a million times, the result isn't the most important thing. Following the same processes is. Anyone with any sense or slightest bit of patience will realize that this is an inexperienced team save for Bhajji/Dhoni/Lax/Dravid. So it's more important now to follow the same processes that got us to being number 1. So unless you think you know better, sit back and enjoy the match tomorrow. Meaningless management mumbo-jumbo. Processes...for FFS!
