ravishingravi Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 Just watching bit of game yesterday and test series against SL when you expect the English bowlers to do well in their conditions, I think there is little there to fear for the Indian team. Anderson, yes, great swing bowler, in given conditions. Swann is good but Indians are the best against spin. But really Indians had a much stiffer challenge against two best fast bowlers in the world in SA. SL, with all due respect is a fairly average ODI and test team abroad, and they are dominating this series and really without the brain fa@# in that one session they would drawn the test series even after trying quite a few youngsters in the team. Yes, rain played a role, but there were sessions when bowlers were hammered off the park. Not saying it will be easy, because the series is in England and they have a decent side. But if Indian team is fully fit and plays 80% of its potential, I see India winning the series. I expected the England side to be much stronger given the display in Ashes. Then again Aussies have been piss poor.
Cricket Tragic Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 Tremlett is as big a threat as Overcast Anderson.
ravishingravi Posted July 4, 2011 Author Posted July 4, 2011 Definitely not. Merely saying that if India plays toits potential, India doesnt have to fear this team.
veer Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 Definitely not. Merely saying that if India plays toits potential' date=' India doesnt have to fear this team.[/quote'] that's a big IF my friend..
Cricket Tragic Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 England is a bloody good test side. Sure, India can win if we play really well but it's obvious that many people on this forum don't watch a lot of cricket outside India's matches.
jeeves Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 not to mention they have the grittiest top three in world cricket,in strausss, cook and trott.ian bell is currently enjoying the best phase of his career .can't take them lightly!!!
NareshK Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 Its important for India to get off a good start in the series. If they can draw the first test or even better win it, the series will be ours. But they usually are poor starters and dont do well in the first test. India has all the players with experience and skill on paper to beat England to a pulp but they have to get it all together.
jairamesh Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 It's not the bowlers that will be the issue, it's Cook and Trott. They just seem to be churning out runs at will with pinpoint concentration and patience. I really hope Duncan Fletcher has a fewer pointers for Zaheer and co regarding these two's weaknesses.
Ramzz Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 ^^ Regarding Trott, Lakmal showed the way to bowl to him. Full and straight with men in catching positions on the leg side. Mix some slower ones with yorkers...which will bring LBW into play as well. I am sure we can get him out with these tactics. Cook...I would expect Zaheer to take him out early LBW or caught behind. Strauss...Zaheer again or bowl an off spinner to him early on. Fullish off spinners of course...not the length that Bhajji bowls.
ShebbySB Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 They are a good side no doubt but we are too good for them coz we've got the strongest batting lineup in the world & a threatning bowling attack too.Though my only concern is Tremlett, with his legcutter which extracts lot of bounce from the good length can get us into trouble. We got to leave those deliveris alone.
FairCricket Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 Tremlett is as big a threat as Overcast Anderson. yep , without these two , SL would won the test series too . these two wll be the biggest tret to india for sure
saneindian Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 Concur with the OP. Yes England are a wonderful test team, but does their invoke fear like say Steyn and Morkel did during the SA series? During that series, they were always a threat and looked like picking wickets anytime. As good as Anderson and Tremlett are, as an Indian fan, Steyn and Morkel looked far more dangerous to me. But where the current English attack scores over the Saffer attak is variety with Swann being there.

English pitches are different slow and less bouncy except a few, which are easier to bat on apart from some exceptional swing friendly conditions. Even Steyn was not that effective England on their last tour to England. I think Swann will be managed if they play positively and don't bog down on his bowling.
ravishingravi Posted July 4, 2011 Author Posted July 4, 2011 I also think this Indian attack will do a lot more damage than any foreign attack in English conditions. Ideal conditions for them. Sreesanth needs to get his head right and take cues from Ishant who has grown by leaps and bounds. Also, immense self belief of this side. They believe they can win from any situation.
BeautifulGame Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 England's bowling is way overrated.Anderson only looks threatening when the ball swings and Tremlett looks decent.Broad is in rubbish form and Swann is a minnow basher. If the ball doesnt swing the only bowler we have to negotiate with care is Tremlett. Swann is way overrated.Apart from the only test in Durban he has been handled with ease by every top team.Even the pi$s poor Aussie batsmen werent troubled by him.His reputation is build by taking bucket loads of wickets against the likes of Padosis and Bangladesh. This attack is not a patch on Saffers we faced in december. Its their batting that concerns me tbh.Trott Cook Pieterson Prior and Bell all in good form.If we have to win the series our bowlers have to really step up.
Sachinism Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 You got it right mate, without the right bowling conditions, it'll be a birthday bash for our batsmen. Even their players know it. In the last few weeks, Prior, Tremlett and Broad have stated in public they want real seaming wickets
Ultimate_Game Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 England in odis is totally different from their Test team and I don't think we can assess England's Test team based on their odi performances. England always had a pretty poor odi squad and results - even in their home series but their Test team and results are quite opposite. Let's not get carried away seeing the England odi team struggle against SL as Eng odi team will find it tough to beat the likes of WI and B'desh. But their Test team is the real deal and though I am optimistic that India will prevail, I am not taking Eng lightly in Tests.
deepak_sach Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 All the English bowlers are rhythm bowlers. See how they were walking when Dilshan smashed the hell out of them.... If Sehwag can get the hell of the opposition then we can easily score 450 everytime.

Sehwag won't be fit for the series similar to the T20 Cup in 2009 - he will be part of the squad but will not play.
