Chalks Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 Solid team, good in most conditions. I honestly believe our best is better than theirs. But we are rarely anywhere near it in the first test of a series, and certainly won't be at Lord's without Veeru. :nervous:

Trichromatic Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 Solid team, good in most conditions. I doubt that. This team is yet to be tested in India and similar conditions. Their bowling, Anderson relies on swing and Tremlett on the bounce mostly. However their ability to do the same in slow tracks or unhelpful pitches is quite doubtful. Same goes with their batting. Few players might actually be able to play in all conditions but not all.

Their best players over the last year have been Cook, Trott, Bell, Anderson, Swann and Tremlett. Prior has been pretty good as well. Pietersen has been inconsistent but he did make a double century in Australia. Strauss and Broad have been poor and are the weak links in the team at the moment.
Temujin Khaghan Posted July 9, 2011 Author Posted July 9, 2011 I hope zaheer can sort out cook and strauss like the way he does other lefty openers. then comes trott... thats where we will have a problem. our bowlers are bad at penetrating through defensive batsmen. we will find trott difficult like we found about amla. pietersen, bell, morgon are all capable of hitting 100s and prior, broad, anderson are capable of reverting a batting upset.
Crookbond Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 It's a pretty decent team. They have an all-round bowling attack. Someone like Bresnan, Finn can bowl even on flat pitches. Broad has the hostility though currently he's desperately out of form. Swann has improved a lot. Overall, England's bowling attack seems better than Indias. On batting, India is probably the strongest in world cricket right now. Fielding we are probably the worst. :giggle:
daryl1985 Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 i don't think there is a big difference in the batting for this series. Normally i would definitely say India has the stronger line up. However, Sehwag will definitely miss the 1st test and could possibly miss more and this is a massive blow. I would argue that along with Tendulkar he is our best test batsman (Gambhir and Laxman have been immense in recent times as well but are a little less important IMO). So India will be weakened at the top of the order. Dravid has had a solid series in the Windies but had he not been dropped by Sammy before going on to make a hundred there may have been more calls from some fans on this forum for him to retire. Raina has performed well recently but i think he may struggle to handle Tremlett. England on the other hand have Cook, Trott and Bell in the form of their life. Morgan is new but i think he has a lot of talent and Prior is a good WK-batsman. England's main worries are the form of KP and Strauss. In terms of bowling i would argue that England have the edge in home conditions.

If they bit the bullet and replaced Stuart Fraud with another in the stable their attack would instantly improve.
