Sachinism Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 We can't even back ourselves to attempt that score. So little faith in our own ability. The amount of times we've pulled out victories from nowhere over the last year and now this. To not even try
Sachinism Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 WOW a lot of people really don't understand test cricket and it's fine little nuances. This whole series both teams have struggled to score at 3RPO, and now just because there is a target in sight we should be able to comfortably score at 4+ an over? Well it ain't that easy, there is a reason it is called TEST cricket, that is because it tests your abilities as a cricketer to the maximum and you can't just go out there and slog gloriously to victory at the flick of a switch. Playing conditions are completely different from T20s and ODIs and the whole mindset is on a different level. Throughout history of more than 100 years teams have scored at around 2.75 runs per over, there is a reason for that. If we had been 1-0 down in the series we would have had to go for it, but because we were up there was no need to risk that lead. Any test series victory is to be cherished, whether it is vs Bang at home or vs Aus away. I'm very happy to have won a test series in the West Indies. Yes its called test cricket, and just when a challenge was placed in front of us, we ran away from it. Should've just stayed at home. I know its not the easiest task, far from it, but for the team to decide so early we're not going for a win is just
rkt.india Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 what?? Kolkata test was not a test in which they tried chasing a target, eventually fell short, ended up losing the series by losing the next match?? Besides, you're getting off the point. The point is that getting 86 runs off 90 balls with 7 wickets in hand on a flat wicket on which even Fidel Edwards batted two and a half hours, was possible. Prove to me that it is an IMPOSSIBLE TASK! sir ji when you go for run on such a wicket you tend to loose wicket and Edwards just stayed there. The did not score 6 runs an over to set the target. It was our bowlers problem that they could not finish the tail. With an inexperienced batting line up, you would always be suspcious on a track where run scoring has not been easy. You can stay there, but scoring at more than a normal pace with only Raina is the real aggressive and busy player in the batting line does not give any confidence.
Fontaine Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 Did u even watch the match? We sent in Raina to try for the target but once got out there is no point in trying to score 6 an over when both Kohli and Dhoni are terribly out of form and Dravid and Laxman cant score quickly. Seriously u wonder how many actually watched the match yesterday and are slagging of our team here. Exactly. The batsmen tried hard, with Vijay/Dravid etc trying to play their shots and going aerial etc but with men on the boundary it wasn't going to be easy. Raina was sent up the order and India did try to win the match. People have a right to be disapointed that our batsmen weren't good enough, but all this crying and complaining that they didn't try is complete garbage.

India was already 1-0 up. It would be stupid just to go swinging away and fall short by 20-30 runs and settle for a draw with a chance of Ishant or Bhajji getting seriously injured.

Most ridiculous excuse I have ever seen..If injury is concern , why play? You play sports backing your abilities not thinking negatives.

There is no point in going after a target which is impossible to achieve given the reasons already discussed with the added risk of having players injured. If you cant get that through your head and keep sounding like a broken record about how India should have achieved this target, then I give up.
BERGKAMP Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 To simplify it for some poeple, scoring at 4RPO in this situation is like scoring at 10RPO in the last 15 overs of an ODI.

Thats why they hardly used to have draws and they used to white-wash teams in most series. they carried that aura with them wherever they went. I believe we are good enough to dominate too, once we let go fo the fear
BERGKAMP Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 True, but that shouldn't really detract anything from this current Indian team, we are a very good side, it's just that, that Aussie team was a once in a generation phenomenon. We have a long way to go to reach that status.
putrevus Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 You can understand Dhoni's point of view for not opting to go all out for the result, there were too many walking wickets in this team including Dhoni himself. Only three batsmen have done well this tour those three are Laxman, Dravid and Raina.Dravid if not for dropped catch also had a very poor series.Dravid has been a liability against decent bowling attack since 2006 overseas.Remember 2007 oval test after not enforcing the follow on Dravid's batting was awful then also. Indian lost a chance to force a win on third day when WI were one bowler short and still Indian kept losing wickets in a bizarre manner and never ran away with the game.

The pitch had slowed down by then, and as you say, they were short of a main bowler, scoring just 347 in that first innings was really poor.

Mukund after first innings where he had to face Edwards who was half fit and Sammy was talking as if he just finished batting against all out 1980s WI pace attack. 347 being highest total for against 11/2 bowlers should tell the might of this Indian side.If Rampaul was fit who knows they could have even lost this test.
cowboysfan Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 Oh dear god!!!.I hearby sentence everybody who is whining here to read "on the beach".I guarantee you that it will cheer you up in no time.
deepak_sach Posted July 11, 2011 Author Posted July 11, 2011 Nah' date=' [b']I was awake late night and was watching star cricket while posting here. I'm not saying that Laxman should have scored quickly. I'm saying that one pinch hitter could have been tried. Seriously you wonder how people think that others are able to comment about the match without watching the match. Dont lie.I thought it was in Ten Cricket.
Fontaine Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 Scoring at 6 rpo for 15/16 overs was impossible. We tried as every set batsmen apart from Dravid played their shots and took chances. The stupid thing is that the media/fans are piling on team India for risking everything to win 2-0 when they had everything to lose with the series already won. Yet nobody has talked about the more disturbing fact that the Windies agreed to draw and gave up trying to draw the series. That's the far more dispointing/controversial decision. India had already won the series 1-0 and tried hard to win 2-0. Windies were losing the series 1-0 yet didn't try to win the third test and gave up. From Bishoo bowling negatively to Sammy agreeing for the draw. There was only one team trying to win. The Windies were actually satisfied with a series loss and a draw in the final. No wonder they suck.
CSK Fan Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 True, but that shouldn't really detract anything from this current Indian team, we are a very good side, it's just that, that Aussie team was a once in a generation phenomenon. We have a long way to go to reach that status. The Aussie team was a geneeration phenomenon not only because of the talent but also because of their attitude. The winning attitude is cultured and feeds on itself. I do believe that India did have the talent to win this series better than 1-0. What they lacked was the guts
Fontaine Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 It's actually a retarded situation. All of the Windies fans in the stadium were cheering and delighted to see their team give up a win and settle for a draw. Whereas our test side with 5 regulars missing were trying hard to win and if not for 90+ overs rained out in the last two tests scheduled right in the middle of a hurrican season FFS we would have won 3-0. But the complain train full of losers is still chugging along.
Sid Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 WHy didnt West Indies go for the win? :idunno: :cantstop:
