Dhoni should have been punished : Harper

In any case, get used to this. The top teams and its leaders are going to be scrutinized more than usual. India is definitely going to be hated by the rest, it's just the way the human psychology works. The rest of the world used to hate Aussies when they were at the top. Public would love to bring down a champion, ask the likes of Botham how he was trated in England when he was at his peak.

Dhoni should have been punished : Harper

Daryl Harper, the former international umpire, has said the ICC's failure to take any action against India captain MS Dhoni for criticising his decisions in the first Test against West Indies reflected the advent of "selective management" in cricket for various teams. This was the chief factor in his decision to retire prematurely from umpiring. He said he felt targeted by the Indian team during the game and was speaking out now on those incidents because the ICC "chose not to". Harper, who quit before his scheduled 96th and final Test in Dominica, also revealed an incident that occurred after Praveen Kumar was removed from the attack for repeated running on the pitch. Dhoni, Harper claimed, approached him after that and said "We've had problems with you before, Daryl", which the umpire interpreted as an attempt to intimidate. Dhoni's more publicised remarks came after the Kingston Test and followed a series of umpiring errors. "If the correct decisions were made the game would have finished much earlier and I would have been in the hotel by now," he said at the post-match press conference. His criticism was described as "unfair" by the ICC general manager of cricket David Richardson, but neither he nor the presiding match referee Jeff Crowe elected to charge the Indian captain.

One man's account! I'm sure if Dhoni was allowed to post his version of the incident he'd have stripped him naked. Should these guys not be sanctioned by the ICC to sprout crap, after all he's still affiliated to ICC presumably?

Dhoni said something like "We've had problems with you before, Daryl"? It's hard to believe that. Harper is attention seeker and making up stories now to malign the image of Indian captain. Cheap tactics being used by him. Officially Dhoni should have been reprimanded by ICC for making statements in media. Certainly a player is not allowed to criticize the umpires in media. Harper was no doubt a poor umpire and his crying is useless. It's good that he is gone.

All said and done, if the rules are to be applied evenly, Dhoni should have been fined for his comments. However, question for Harper is, does he evenly apply rules to all the players he deals with?

Harper is a nut case. I have no sympathy for this jerk of an umpire. MSD may have breached some ICC code, but after the kind of decisions he got in the test - PK barred from bowling (very harsh!), 3 middle order batsmen wrongly/questionably given out, 2-3 borderline decisions against Windies not being given out etc (all by Harper) - it would be a miracle for any competitive man to keep his composure. Infact I wish we had an Inzi amongst us to run after Harper with a bat...............

Can someone ask him what did he said and why did he said. "I think he was suggesting that ball was over head height and should have been no ball" BTW Dhoni or any cricketer will never say that.... It sounds like Hollywood gangster/action movie dialogue. Your comment sounds like you agree with Harper.
