Ultimate_Game Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 I don't know which game you were following or tournament. Pak won just 2 games here is the points table http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/series/61152.html unless you including the weird logic of counting your wins in the group stage with some fellow minnow nations. That's another thing Pak fans are good at - fudging stats or deluding theselves. Somehow they are always good and the world is "unfair" and is out to get them. I am sure they have an explanation for why they haven't managed to in in WI even once. I am sure it's not coz of "skill" and "talent" :haha:
Gotham Cronie Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 There is something called "winning when it matters"' date=' just ask Saffers. You can win as many matches as you want during the group stages but if you can't win when it matters, i.e., knockouts and finals, it counts for jack-s**t.[/quote'] Actually Pakistan did win when it "mattered" against India. They won by 59 runs. But they didn't win by enough and India got the bonus point.
ganeshran Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Pakistan had 4 wins and 1 loss. India had 3 wins and 2 losses. (including one of those losses to Pakistan) Yet, India made the final. LOL you cannot count number of group wins in a multistage tournament . By that logic, Saffers should have gone into the semis of the WC and not NZ.

Thanks for that link. I didn't watch that tournament and was going off the results page that didn't break it down by group. So all 3 of the big nations (SL, IND, and PAK) had 2 wins, 1 loss. Sri Lanka lost to India. India lost to Pakistan. Pakistan lost to Sri Lanka. Pakistan had the higher run rate but India got the bonus point.

That proves my point... India performed better when it mattered. India made it to the finals coz they were good anough to get the bonus point, Pakistan wasn't. So you wanted Pak to make it to the finals even though India had more points?
flamy Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: cracks me up every feckin time :cantstop:

Like I already mentioned, I didn't see the points table until Cricketics posted it. I couldn't find it from his first link so I didn't know there were different rounds.
ganeshran Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 But the bonus point criteria was mentioned beforehand to all the teams, right? It wasnt a sudden rule change introduced to deny Pakistan a place in the final Teams had the chance to plan for securing the additional points- something which Pakistan failed to do.

Yeah, I'm sure it was. I never said it was a sudden rule change.
