It looks like no one expected the situation to go out of hand so quickly...including the victims. According to the news one of the survivors was trying to rescue. Looks like the father moved towards the girl to get her to safety first . There have been many more such videos shown on news these days where the onlookers helped the people out of the situation. There is one where a little naked boy who had gone in the river to take a bath got caught. He stood firm on a rock for a long tome while the onlookers tried to rescue him with sticks, saarees. Finally he got swept away by the water...seeing this a whole lot of people jumped into the raging water and got him out. That was a happy ending.
Thats really great. Can you link me to that article/video?

Sad. RIP. It wouldn't be difficult to install a couple of solar-powered sensors a few kilometers upstream that set off sirens when the water level rises above a point. That way people in that place will have advance warning about the incoming flow and clear out to safety.
Should have been a fence in the first place. There is no way they should have been able to gotten so close to the cliff. Having said that.. 3 hikers in yosemite falls went over the rails to get themselves killed http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2016864/Yosemite-National-Park-Vernal-waterfall-accident-3-hikers-presumed-dead.html?ito=feeds-newsxml

Sorry achilles...don't have a link.It was all over the news yersterday.I think I saw it on one of the hindi news channel. The boy was about 3-4 yrs old and really brave.Probably always bathed in the river and didn't know how dangerous it could get. Even after all these videos being shown on TV...they showed a young man get swept away.He was showing off and jumped into the swollen river from a small bridge. Now why should any onlooker put his life on the line for such a fool.

+1 That is exactly what happened in Yosemite fall 2 days back. It was chain incident. First one person slipped and washed away. Then the 2nd person tried to save and got washed away. Third person tried to save both and got washed away too. There is only so much you can do in such a short span of time. Also if only they had run as fast as they could, they could have survived.

That **** is insane. The other people just couldn't help. Why were they even there in the first place?
Patal pani (waterfall) is a picnik spot .They went right in the middle of the waterfall (till the cliff ) ignoring warning (written on the board ). @vvvslaxman :there is no fencing done in patal pani .Fact is there is thin line between being adventurous and being stupid .

Absolutely. Fences won't do anything about human nature. When you don't see the water you don't think it's going to happen to you. An early warning system will give tourists who venture there a fighting chance to get away to safety.
