From Cricinfo: When the hell did Sreesanth EVER bowl an opening spell like this with the new ball? But we can certainly look back to Sreesanth's opening spell when he bowled against England in Lord's the last time: Sreesanth: 6 Overs, 0 maidens, 35 runs, 7 Fours, 0 wickets. Praveen: 9-4-18-0 Sreesanth must be crying in the dressing room.
u comparing different pitches weather conditions mate ,that day was sunny now i bet after lunch wait and watch how the bowlers are hammered we could have picked munaf atleast

]mate pk is a club level bowler' date='can he bowl on flat picthes in india? answer is no can he bowl on picthes just with bounce abroad?no can he bowl with old ball ?no [/b']why should he get a chance in helpful conditions when other like sreesanth ,munaf have worked their socks off bowling on flatbeds in india. sreesanth got a five wicket hall in his last test to remind you. at best pk is short term bet which is not going to take us nowhere
PK has done that on a consitant basis in ODIs and domestic cricket in India, So you are wrong. As for movement, he doesnt need a pitch assisting movement, he can produce movement on any pitch

Another point to consider is that PK's selection has deprived Ishant of the new ball. Really couldcome back to bite us. We all know what happened the last time Ishant bowled first change in SA.
Except Ishant isn't a swing bowler when the conditions clearly were all for swing. Seam, not so much.

India bowled alright,, not great but okay. Should really have got 3 (at least 2) in that session. PK unlucky to not have got any wkts yet. I suspect it will be tough work from here on for India.

I know, but I didn't create the OP where the comparison was made between Sree/PK, maybe your comment should be directed at rett instead. Sreesanth had every chance to come back to this side. He had a long layoff to get fit, work on his bowling, really benefit from Eric Simmons/Fletcher, even come to England early and ahead of time (like SRT) because he wasn't in the Windies squad. Except he did none of those things. He did instead, put on weight, form a musical band and go touring. The only person to blame here is Sreesanth.

Praveen bowled well and much better than expected. I dont think Sree would have done much better. He is a real wayward bowler but he is always on the look out for wickets and sometimes gets batsmen out. IMO both are not good enough. India needs pacers who are better than PK and Sree if they want to remain No.1 for a longer period.

in helpful condition sree has always done well be it sa or england he got 4 wickets at lords last time cleaned up the tail and in second test was economical and gave 12 runs off 20 overs or so and got paul collignwood and in third test got 4 wicket haul

But I have also seen him completely lose the plot and bowl rubbish and nullify any pressure that other bowlers have built. You cant count on Sreesanth to turn up and bowl well on a particular day but you can expect Praveen most times to bowl as he did today. With his inconsistency, Sreesanth will always remain a gamble. So not much of a bad decision to not play him.

ATM' date=' he is a better option than Sreesanth. Eng would be 80/1 by now, if not for the tight bowling at both the ends. They are bowling as a team.[/quote'] or 60 for 3 ,bowling tight in bowling friendly condition when you have put the opp in is not a choice

Rett' date=' can you get one person, who has seen the match today, to agree with you that PK was not unlcukcy today and is not a wicket taking bowler? You just followed the match on cricinfo I presume. there is no evidence that Sree wouldnt have been equally unlucky[/quote'] I did watch the game in the first session (even am late for work because of that) and I started this thread after watching it The guys who aren't agreeing are probably the ones who think: Sree ---> Bad T20 option----> he leaks runs Sree ----> Bad ODI option ----> he leaks runs Sree ----> Bad test option ----> he leaks runs Good captains would be even willing to give 100 runs in the first session in order to pick up 3-4 wkts. Playing a wildcard is a part of that risk if you have an attack like ours (mainly dependent on Zak). If economy is such a concern, get dartbhajan to throw darts or get someone to bowl way outside so the batsman doesn't play at those. The idea here is to get the batsman to play the shots to induce a catch, if a bowler goes for runs in that process its fine. This is test cricket. Containment should only come into play once a partnership gets going and the bowlers don't seem to be using the conditions well. And we have bowlers who can look to contain. What India lacks is someone who can win you a session in this conditions So far its all Zak who is doing all the work. We need bowlers who can pick up wkts too to support Zak
