Really??!! I thought Kolkata was good only for seafood.
In my opinion the puchkas in Kolkatta are the best I have ever had.

Technically its river food since most of fishes are freshwater fishes like Rohu, Hilsa, Bhetki (not sure). :winky:

Have to +1 this. It is miles ahead of anything you get anywhere else. Delhi comes close but only so far. You have to try the puchka in Cal to know what it is all about.

yup it is. it's called Bombil in Marathi and Bombay duck in English. it's simply superb. BTW, remember Ajit Agarkar was called Bombay Duck when he got out several times on a duck? :haha:

^^ Monisha, isn't Bombil called Pomphret in English? Bombay Duck is Rawas, I think. I could be wrong though. The thing is that everyone uses the Marathi names for seafood, as all the fisherfolk ( koli) are Maharashtrian.

^^^ Yup, you guys are right. Bombil = Bombay Duck Paplet/ Sarangi = Pomphret Rawas = Indian river Salmon. So me :fail: All these years I ate the fish getting their names mixed up. :(( :giggle:
