rkt.india Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 As much as I hate Hussain' date=' I do agree with the first part of his statement[/quote'] I dont agree with your statement. India started playing more tests once they become #1 and there is no team which wont value their #1 ranking, but at the end it all comes to the ability and India did not have the ability or talent to sustain that ranking for long and still they did it for 20 months. Look Indian team was no extraordinary team but had some extraordinary cricketers like SRT, RD, and VVS, who on their day could do anything. Apart from these guys, all others were decent to average at best and once these extraordinary cricketers started fading, Indian team had to go down. This is the reality and had to happen one day and it was good for the team which made them realize that these horses are getting old and won't pull the cart on their own for long. To become #1 is hard but to sustain that is harder. Why? Let me tell you why? To sustain #1 ranking, a team needs to win every series it plays, most test matches it plays because even a draw against a lower ranked side than you will lose you ranking points and to be honest, this is impossible unless all players in your eleven are very good to extraordinary. A team can only manage to win every match, every series if the team is at its best all the time and players give 100% every time they come on the field. Though it is much easier to talk about, harder to achieve. No player, no team can give their 100% every time they land on to a cricket field and that is true even for invincible Aussie side, but where that Aussie side was different than these Indian and England was their talent level, the extraordinaire they had. They had more extraordinary players than these two sides had. So they used to compliment each other well. Because if one guy had an average game at 70%, the other guy would raise hi game to 130% to make up. This is why even when they play at 70% of their actual potential, they could match or even empower the 100% potential of other teams because of the sheer extraordinaire they had in their team.
Sean Bradley Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Honestly, This Test No.1 thing is crap, ICC should come up with Test Championship amongst top 5 Teams, every 3 years.
