SLICKR392 Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 Am 19 and am surely a big fan of football but I don't watch all the matches in fball, like I do in Cricket. I watch matches when Chelsea or England's playing. But in cricket...it doesn't matter whose playing whom ( unless its any of SJ's team )...I love watching that sport...its PERFECT IMHO. And I've got a bulk of friends of my age group who follow cricket just as I do. But there are some who love football just for the sake of it being a foreign sport....so they can talk about cricket and explain how every single match is fixed with some of the most BS theories. :facepalm:

It's imple economics - people will play the sport which has money, and in India cricket calls the shots. After IPL the imbalance is even more and I expect India to have a competitive team coz of the players attracted to IPL & cricket money.

the_indian_fan Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 football sucks. its 1 of the most boring sports thats played on this planet. 90 mins of games & only 2-3 goals being scored i tried to watch a football match about 2-3 times and was put off to sleep within 10-15 mins as the game seemed to have no action whatsoever. no goals were scored in these 10-15 mins. also i have never been able to develop any interest in football compare that to cricket, where we see about 180 runs being scored in 20 overs and 320 runs being scored in 50 overs, thats something which makes cricket interesting. no sleep at all. and watching players like sehwag/gayle bat, u will forget sleeping also if india fails to qualify for the 2018 football wc, then football should be banned for the next 40-50 years in india and these youngsters fined for wasting time and not helping in development of the country

The guys who watch soccer don't play cricket or feed into the cricket as well. They are generally spoilt brats who follow football to look "cool" and talk about Messie and Ronaldo even though they don't even know which national teams those guys play for. It's the lower, lower middle and middle classes which feeds cricketing system and not upper middle & rich classes. If you look at recent youngsters we get players from smaller centres or from the above-mentioned demographics. You don't get likes of Rainas, Dhonis, Tendulkars etc. from the likes of who go to a high profile pub to follow Manchester Untd Vs Chelsea.

Crookbond Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 I agree on the "cool" aspect. It was funny to see a wave of support for England at the Euro 2012. The only reason they support is due to watching EPL (which btw has the most convenient time to watch games). Most of them would hardly understand the game but I wouldn't deny that football is a game which can easily attract popularity.

Many nowadays do not watch the whole match simply. Actually, I would argue it is IPL which is the best tournament where really everybody watches the complete matches of their favorite teams. In simple terms, it does not seem worthwhile for today's generation to spend 7-8 hours on cricket, they would much rather play games on computer?

In theory, Yes. Football should take over cricket. Afterall, it is cheaper to play in terms of equipment, easier to play in terms of location, better duration and perhaps more "fun" to play. However, we do not have the scouting and incentive structure in place to capture any potential good players in the making.

It is about mindset.

Dhoni is better than most WK-Batsmen India has ever produced in tests. He is anything but mediocre in ODIs, probably top 4-5 ODI cricketers India has ever produced, format which carries far more importance for large no. of Indian cricket followers.

Yeah and guess what - I give a tiny weight to ODIs when I am judging a cricketer. In tests Dhoni = can't keep, can't bat.
