Meet one of the promising fast bowling cricketers of the Kashmir valley, Mehjoor Ali Sofi. Mindful that growing pains are inevitably, Mehjoor wants to scale high. “Definitely, aim is to play at the highest level but there is still some way before reaching at the stage every cricketer aspires in life,†says Mehjoor, the 19-year-old boy from Malbagh area, a suburb of the state’s summer capital— Srinagar. The boy is tipped to play for Rajasthan Royals, the winner for inaugural T20 Indian Premier League, in next and 4th edition of the competition controlled by Board of Control for Cricket in India. Mehjoor remained in the Royals ‘developmental squad’ in last league of the popular cricketing tournament. “It was quite an experience bowling to the likes of Graeme Smith (captain South Africa), Australia’s Shane Watson, Yusuf Pathan, England’s Michael Lumb and others in nets,†he said in an interview with Press Bureau of India. “It was an intense competition and being a youngster, I had the chance to play against some of the best in busy. It was a valuable learning experience for me and will definitely help me grow as I grow,†he said. The youngster has made tremendous progress in little stint he has at the higher leagues in state and is considered as a gifted bowler who has speed and can bowl both in-swing as well as the out-swing. “The Royal camps gave the exposure and helped me to believe in myself. People like Shane Warne, Munauf Patel, Morne Morkel, Shaun Tait and coaches passed some of the best tips they had gained through experience,†he says. “All this would have not been possible at all without the support of the state. Our Trainee at JKCA Mushtaq Ahmad prepared to meet the fitness challenge. There are others particularly Mr Idress Gandroo (coach of JKCA) who always supported and stood behind me. They would call me almost on daily basis during the camp with Royals.†He is also all praise for Secretary Saleem Khan, Joint Secretary JKCA, members like Ahsan Mirza and the experienced Ranji level cricketers from the state. Mehjoor has earned the distinction of being the only fast bowler from Kashmir to participate in fast bowler’s academy in Mohali recently. The Fast Bowlers Academy of the BCCI was held from May 1 at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) here. There were only five bowlers across India who participated in the event. “There they organized video analysis to check for any flaw in the bowling action. Besides, thrust was on fitness,†he said. This news is old. He did not play in IPL4, but maybe next year he may play with more experience. He is only 19 according to the news and is in development squad of RR.

They will never get to international cricket even if they are as talented as Steyn. all big hitters will Kill these pace bowlers and we will wonder that INDIAN fast bowlers do not have the pace ..IPL will only make indian cricket teams..test and ONe day weak..we will get batters who hardly have any technique...Yusuf is a big hitter and i am a big fan of Yusuf but i wonder how can such a talented t 20 batsmen does not manage to fix his place in a one day team..bcos he hardly has any patience,and impatience will not give him success..... I totally Agree, good fast bowlers should not be in t 20's i feel disgusted when a 2nd Slip easy catch goes for a stunning 4 and the batsmen feels Happy , the same shot is caught in a Test match.
