Ashwin will be like Ajantha Mendis in Test matches.. I think it'll be a bad choice. He should be groomed for limited overs only. We need specialist spinners. Remember Bhajji has not retired. He will play as long as he wishes to, if he is fit. SO no point in discussing Spinners as Bhajji will keep his place for atleas 5-7 years.. We can't rely on him other than giving him under prepared wickets. So our best bet is to have atleast one fast strike bowler..

1. Swing Bowlers: Have at most two swing bowlers in the squad: PK has already shown he has more control than Sree and can swing the ball both ways. Sreesanth only bowls at 77-80 mph now and can't swing the ball both ways, isn't consistent or economical. He can leave. The competition should now be between Irfan Pathan, Rp Singh, Praveen Kumar: All swing bowlers. 2. Hit the deck/seam bowlers: This is where pace is all important. NOT speed gun pace but pace off the deck. There's no point having a weak seam bowler who bowls at 85mph off his hand but the ball slows down considereably by the time it reaches the batsmen. Ishant Sharma and Munaf Patel are the two guys here. These guys need to be fit, strong and athletic enough to hit the deck and put batsmen on the back foot and actually bowl effective bouncers while the stock deliveries are the ones that seam off the deck. Competition should be between Ishant/Munaf/and any young tall fast bowler. 3. Combination of the two. Zaheer Khan is the only bowler right now that can cut down his pace and bowl 82-84 mph but is still strong enough to hit the deck and bowl effective bouncers and get seam ovement off the deck. That's why he's been one of the best bowlers in different conditions. It's vital that the selectors/management find these kinds of bowlers and develop/groom them. I don't know enough about domestic cricket to put in other bowlers here but the point is none of the above happens unless there's a plan and dedicated effort from the bowlers themselves and the selectors/management to stress the importance of rest/rehab/recovery and strength/stamina training. Passing a token fitness test at the NCA should be the least criteria. The younger guys have to play domestic cricket, be part of list A tours, warm up matches etc.

Not sure there's much point going into this as it won't be looked at. But the world and his wife knows there is a structural problem as much as anything. Argue as much as you want about how good they actually were to start with but the downfall of RP Singh, Munaf, the lack of progression from Sree, problems Ishant has had and the death of Irfan Pathan tell a story. It's not like the raw material isn't there or decent prospects haven't emerged. Indian cricket could probably get away with not 'grooming' these phasst boilers for the moment if it was just willing to look at why so much gets flushed down the toilet in the process. From there you can look at pooling together players (which one needs to be competitive now, there can be no doubt).

Bowlers hunt in pairs. Even one or two leaky buckets can undo all the pressure that is mounted by a good bowler at one end. I don't think any of the English bowlers are more skilled than Zaheer (Anderson might come close), but they all look a class apart (in spite of bowling to a more experienced middle order) because bowl well together. Indian test future looks bleak. Bowling is just one of the many problems...

It seems our bowlers hate bowling at left handers...As soon right hander came they were bowling better. I have now given up on Sreesanth. He just went Agarkar way. Who we have in our cupboard that can come sooni into the team?

Well he is undergoing surgery now......so he will have much needed rest plus strethening and conditionoing........so after that he may come to play at least 2 years.....he is 32-33..........fast bowlers now play till 37-38........i am only assuming 34-35.

and in that break, he will also probably put on 5-10 kilos of weight.

Ishant is just 22,he needs more time but pathetic Sree has to go.Zaheer,Ishant,Praveen along with some young fast bowlers like Aaron,Umesh,Tyagi,Unadkat(with some added beef),Pankaj should be in the squad.I don't consider Munaf as a test bowler even Nehra is better than him.We need a fast bowling pool of 7-8 guys who are always fit,ready & ready to deliver for the country.
