saneindian Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 He's going to take a lot of ODI wickets. Slight fine tuning and those 145 kph yorkers will start crushing some toes and flattening out stumps. He'd said he's tweaked his action a little bit (direction of the toe at the time of delivery) to avoid future injuries based on expert opinion, so the spraying could be a result of that. As he plays more , will keep getting better.
TNAmarkFrmIndia Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 If you think pandey or anyone else would do better than Aaron' date=' I'm not saying don't give them opportunities. I'm just saying don't write off Aaron already with bad performance in 3 matches. Rest is for you to decide[/quote'] Saying this was a bad performance would be a huge understatement. Varun Aaron was taken to the cleaners by Bangladeshi batsmen. One can only imagine how he would fare against better teams like Sri Lanka and Pakistan (maybe even Afghanistan who play aggressively). It's a wonder we weren't chasing over 300, and that's largely due to the efforts of our other bowlers. But we can't afford to take that risk often. We don't have the batting line up in this tournament to be able to put up or chase down big scores very often. Kohli played brilliantly today. Might not happen in every game.

I'm not saying that his performance today should be disregarded but I take objection to him being called crap because he has proven to do good before. That's all. And as I said in pm, sorry for calling you moron. Got carried away. :icflove:
express bowling Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Aaron is coming back after a long long layoff. He needs some more matches to get match fit. We can't drop a player with potential after 4 matches. I am getting the feeling that he has not got his rhythm yet. Needs to bowl more. We must strike a balance between giving a player 52 tests to prove his potential and giving him 5 or 6 matches.
cowboysfan Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 I don't know whether to laugh or cru at our search for a effective fast bowler,Aaron has been terrible since his comeback but we still attribute it to rust.
saneindian Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 I don't know whether to laugh or cru at our search for a effective fast bowler' date='Aaron has been terrible since his comeback but we still attribute it to rust.[/quote'] Exactly how many matches has he played? 8 ODIs! Even worse bowlers than him have got more chances before being written off. A bit of patience would do us no harm

Got carried away. :icflove: I know, and I believed before his return in the New Zealand series that he could've been a key player in our bowling line-up, but he proved me completely wrong. And he didn't just struggle in that series, he performed poorly in the Corporate Trophy too, whereas he performed pretty well in the domestic one-dayers before the injury. Most likely it's the slight change in action that's completely altered his radar. I just don't support the idea of backing a player simply because he has pace. You pick a bowler based on how well he's bowling, not just his pace which isn't helping him at the moment. Is keeping on playing him the solution to him improving though? That will only result in him taking his place for granted and getting complacent. There are problems he need to work on, and they're not just going to take care of itself by playing more matches. Varun's problem could be a deeper one, and that could need some time to work on before being able to return to the international arena again.
vvvslaxman Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 I don't mind giving him chances based on "potential" . But stop hyping like he is next best thing after slice of bread. We have to stop comparing with our own crap players and start comparing with actual world class fast bowlers the are playing and try to understand how they succeed. Fast bowling is not just not the number you see on the Television screen. If you think that is be all end all then you need to know a lot more about bowling. Despite lower clock speeds Shami looked quicker on screen. Explain to me why? He constantly hit the splice of the bat as against middle of the bat by Aaron that too down the wicket.

Again I just said pace is an important criterion, it's not everything. It's unfair to call me a speed junkie because I was also one of the biggest supporters of Bhuvi during the beginning of his international career. And yes I do be Believe that with bhuvi's added pace, he can be a better bowler, if he keeps his line and length proper.Even with umesh, I was one of the few who objected to his presence in ODIs because he isn't good enough for it. I want him as test specialist. Here is where you and me differ, I think he should be given more matches because he i believe he's capable of improving and you believe there are other bowlers who should be given chance andvarun should be sent back to domestics. These points can be made without name-calling. And as I said before, have a nice day. I gotta go

We must strike a balance between giving a player 52 tests to prove his potential and giving him 5 or 6 matches. He bowled 2-3 boundary balls every over today and he did the same thing in ODIs against NZ and if he continues to bowl rubbish like that, he will easily go for 8-9 RPO on these flat, slow pitches and it would make a big difference. Its not as if he got hit by a champion batsman despite bowling decently. This was against BD and he was either too wide, too short or too full many times. Too many bad balls. He has to sort out his issues in domestic cricket and he can always come back to international cricket. You dont sort out your basics like hitting the right line and length in international cricket. That's what net sessions and domestic cricket is for. Pace can be a weapon if the bowler has good control and skills. Just pace without the latter wont account to much.
vvvslaxman Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LYnn79Ycfk]Shoaib Akthar Bowled Dravid with In Swinging Dipper - YouTube[/ame] This ball is only 142k.. Dravid did not have time to react. Because he beat him with pace and swing . Just watch how ball quickens after pitching. So don't be fooled by clock speeds.
keith Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Saying this was a bad performance would be a huge understatement. Varun Aaron was taken to the cleaners by Bangladeshi batsmen. One can only imagine how he would fare against better teams like Sri Lanka and Pakistan (maybe even Afghanistan who play aggressively). In the NZ ODIs, you might've seen Adam Milne bowling. This is a guy who was picked purely on pace as an 18 year old, and got spanked. Repeatedly. All over the park. But he was persisted with and picked again as a strike bowler. In his short stint against India he troubled every batsman but Kohli. To me, that's worth it. Also, I think you're underestimating Bangladesh batsmen in home conditions. They'll spank just about every pace bowler on those pitches that don't have bounce. Mominul in particular has shown already that he looks to be a superb flat track bully.
Marut Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 If we can give a cr**p bowler like Ishant such a long rope, then a genuine pacer like Aaron deserves a much long rope. His ODI strike rate is 32, he is a wicket taker. He just needs more exposure now and he will be firing on all cylinders for the WC.
ThePhenomenal1 Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 When a bowler is proving to be extremely expensive in those few matches without really giving you the strikes that you expect of him' date=' then those performances are certainly deserving of getting dropped. Had he given at least 20 runs lesser than he did (which would still be quite expensive) there may have been a case for him to play the next game, but he bowled pathetically. An economy rate of nearly 10 when the other two pacers bowled at about 5 runs an over just shows the gulf between him and the rest of the bowlers. Bowling like that really handicaps the captain as he has to look to his part-timers to bowl a few overs.[/quote'] i think kohli understands the value of a 140+ pacer. He wants aaron to improve and was talking to him. I think aaron should stay; it wont do him or india any good if hes dropped. Some days a bowler will go for runs, but once aaron gets it right you can bet that kohli will have him running in for him.
jhakati Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 First-class Average 22.78 Economy rate 2.78 List-A Average 26.50 Economy Rate 4.45 Twenty20 Average 17.40 Economy Rate 6.91 Oh wait, I forgot we were talking in speed-junkese where you need an average of over 40 in ODIs like Umesh Yadav or go for over 6.5 rpo like Varun Aaron. I think those who never played the game at a higher level are the ones that can't think beyond pace. Anyone who has actually played the game at a higher level knows that good batsman can deal with pace easily, it's accuracy that is key. Aaron is a joke when it comes to accuracy and he isn't even that fast :giggle:
MCcricket Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 I DONT EXPECT EVERYONE TO HAVE SIMILAR VIEWS BUT PARTLY IT IS OUR MINDSET AND THE REASON WE DONT EXCEL IN SPORTS BEING A COUNTRY OF 1 BILLION, A TEAM IS SELECTED PER REQUIREMENTS AND THERE IS A COMPOSITION LOL, GOING BY SOME PEOPLES LOGIC HERE M NOT SURE IF THEY EVER PLAYED SERIOUS CRICKET IT IS LIKE HAVING A TEAM OF SOCCER WITH ALL PLAYERS EXCEPT GOALKEEPERS BEING DEFENDERS LOL. A team which is pro active to the needs of building a strong squad and win ning in different conditions should have different type of players, Openers, players like Pujara to hold innings and play a big innings, mavericks like Virat, big shot players like Dhoni, also same way any good team should have aggressive fast bowlers and that always is a worthy investment, have youll seen how pedestrian MJ was and could be and now how many games he has won single handedly and that too test's. India should have Aaron, Shukla, Suyal, Umesh, in their squads accordingly and try out different combos, these tracks r the worst kind I have seen and second innings is easy to get wickets because of unreliable bounce, Aaron, Suyal, SHAMI , BK, given time will be a good attack for world cup, also think Pujara, Pandey should be playing more often.

We must strike a balance between giving a player 52 tests to prove his potential and giving him 5 or 6 matches. Ishant sharma and his long rope have led to the "Ishant effect" 'If after a few matches the bowler is struggling or fails to breakout, then discard him because we can't have another ishant sharma, who had 52 tests and counting.' People are so sick of ishant (rightly so) that anyone that gets carted around reminds them of him and they demand the bowler be dropped. Thing is, ishant doesnt take wickets like a proper bowler does, usually gets attacked. And his economy is always high.. so what we have in current attack and bench is miles better.

jhakati Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Sure' date=' because 147+ is not fast..[/quote'] not as fast as the ball flies off the bat when he's charging in, his ER was close to 10 today :giggle:
asterix Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 I think bowlers need to grab their chances. Nobody talks about giving Shami a long rope because he's already become one of our strike bowlers... Of whatever I've seen of Varun, I don't think he's able to grab his chances.... there's too much competition and there are other pace bowlers waiting to get a chance and grab it... Honhaar poot ke panw paalney mien hi dikh jaatey hain... ( example: Shami)... Time to look beyond Varun, unfortunately. Tough luck for him, he's got enough chances. There are other bowlers waiting who've even not got a single chance...
