gaurav92 Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 The event did not take pace.It was banned by the k'taka government. Alright now I understood. The point that master22 is trying to explain is that the event took place without much pace. Since Vinay Koooomar hails from that very place, and you will hardly find anyone bowling at pace, you are sure that no one will throw the tomatoes at a better pace. K'taka givernment after a confirmation letter with BCCI decided to ban pace being part of the carnival. As it is, no one will throw tomatoes at pace, its a sensible ban to be honest :nice:

bulbul Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 The students also wasted tomatoes, which was the original point of opposition of many on this thread? The event did take place, but not the one that was originally planned you cant control Un authorized events....they stopped Planned event atleast thats a way in right direction
yoda Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 you cant control Un authorized events....they stopped Planned event atleast thats a way in right direction This thread is not about whether the govt is doing enough to stop this, rather about the mad idea of throwing a vegetable at each other in the name of fun. Regarding Mariyam's point about wasting food in marriages, it is not exactly the same. Food does gets wasted all the time, but when you have an event whose entire theme is based on wasting food, it is something which can't be condoned.

My replies based on Last few posts..i am also against to this nonsense Same reason govt banned this... as for as wasting is considered there are many tthings which should be avoided..... To give one example water
master22 Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 The students also wasted tomatoes, which was the original point of opposition of many on this thread? The event did take place, but not the one that was originally planned Dude there is a lot of difference between a public event and a private event. The event which had to take place in palace grounds was a public one where all were welcome and more than a lakh tomatoes would have been wasted and that is why the govt banned it....the news you posted was of some random colg in blore where not more than two hundred students participated and it was organised by the colg.Anyways i am too against wasting of food.
coffee_rules Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 What a waste..They can donate the food to some needy people, still call it La tomatina or whatever. Hate the movie ZNMD for glorifying the waste culture. Stupid colg students want to ape the same culture.
Number Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Instead of tomatoes give them Cricket ball and let them throw it and pick the fastest thrower as fast bowler. There are already so many chuckers these days in intl cricket.
kubrickian Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 I find it hypocritical that many people here are talking about wastage of food. What about festivals like Diwali and Ganesh Chaturthi where people spend millions bursting crackers, building idols and submerge them into water which will again lead to water pollution, noise pollution and air pollution. All the money and food could have been instead donated to poor, isnt it ? Now dont tell me its a festival and tradition and all. These festivals could instead be celebrated much more quietly and economically. But instead we choose to over spend and waste a lot of money just for our amusement and ego. But I also understand at the end of the day, its the choice of people and this is a free country. Same thing with this event, its up to people what they spend their money on and nobody has the rights to tell them otherwise unless they are breaking some kind of law.
