This could be a big blow to India's campaign in the forthcoming one-day series, as they are already without the services of Zaheer Khan [ Images ], Yuvraj Singh [ Images ], Harbhajan Singh [ Images ] and Virender Sehwag [ Images ], all of whom are out with injuries. Gautam GambhirIndia were whitewashed 4-0 in the Test series; lost their number one Test rankings and are in danger of suffering a similar debilitating fate in the one-day series, starting with the opening match in Chester-le-Street on September 3. Gambhir had backpedalled in an attempt to catch out Kevin Pietersen [ Images ] at mid-on on the second day of the final Test at the Oval on August 19 but tripped and fell on his head and subsequently suffered from blurred vision. He didn't open in both innings of the Oval Test and came down late in the order, contributing little by way of runs. Since then, he has visited doctors and got MRI scans done which have shown clean results, yet Gambhir's condition hasn't improved. Gambhir's case seems similar to the one suffered by South African fast bowler Dale Steyn [ Images ]. During last year's Champions' League [ Images ] T20 semi-final between Chennai Super Kings [ Images ] and Royal Challengers [ Images ] Bangalore, Steyn had backpedalled to catch out Michael Hussey [ Images ] and fell on his head. Steyn's MRI scans too showed little but the paceman took 3-4 weeks to get himself sorted. Whether he remains with Team India for the rest of the tour, or comes home, is going to be decided once he's through with that appointment. After being battered in the four-Test series, India now face England in a T20 International and five ODIs. The injury-prone Gambhir landed on his head while trying to catch Kevin Pietersen on Day II of the final Test, at The Oval, on August 19. He couldn't open in either innings there, following "mild concussion," and his vision has since been blurred. It's worrying, to say the least. "We wanted Gautam to consult an eye specialist today, but none was available because of a Bank Holiday... Now, he will see one in Manchester tomorrow," a somewhat worried manager, Shivlal Yadav, told The Telegraph on Monday, from Leicester. The team was to leave for Manchester immediately after the T20 match against Leicestershire. Asked if the national selectors had been alerted to the possibility of sending yet another replacement, Shivlal said: "But we can't jump the gun, can we? Let's wait for the specialist's opinion." Selector Raja Venkat has reached England, while Yashpal Sharma is going to be there on Tuesday. The other three ' Krishnamachari Srikkanth, Narendra Hirwani and Surendra Bhave ' are at home. The 29-year-old Gambhir was himself non-committal on his immediate future in an SMS to this newspaper: "Don't know as yet." It has been an absolutely awful summer for Gambhir, who had to miss the tour of the West Indies owing to a shoulder injury. Not that the injury at The Oval was Gambhir's first in England. Struck on his left elbow by a sweep from Matt Prior during the Lord's Test, he sat out the next one (Trent Bridge) and ended up making no impact in the series. But, then, nobody did ' except Rahul Dravid. If it comes to that, Shikhar Dhawan may be the one rushed to England as the newest replacement. Already out are Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma. Footnote: Should Gambhir have to return, then there will be a question mark over his availability for the forthcoming CLT20 qualifiers. "He went to an eye specialist today and it seems he continues to suffer from concussion," Shivlal Yadav, the Indian team manager informed. Infact, both scored 100+ in an inning. #3 spot would be solid for either of them Manoj already got opportunity in West Indies, but didn't deliver. Maybe #3 or #4 spot will suit him more.

He is not a T20 player, just try to manufactures shots in T20s. You must watch his innings in final of Ranji trophy against Mumbai. He battled a lone hand there.
