Office Network goes down (wish it happend more regularly) and we are advised to take the day off. Awesome! Run home during lunch, no worries of traffic, maybe I could finally finish off those errands I had in mind? Possibly get my house cleaned up a tad. (Ever drove home during an odd hour of a weekday? Say 1 pm? Doesnt world look so different?) By the time I reach home the excitment has increased, the ideas of cleaning house and running errands have been transformed into watching a movie and chill in the pool. And just enjoy the last remains of the summer. Switch on the TV and on dish is this old Kumar Gauraw, Rati Agnihotri number - Vaada na Tod. It always reminds me of two things, the paanwallah opposite my house whose transistor blazed this song aplenty. And this dame from my college days who I shall always remember as organizing her duppat over right shoulder with her left hand. Often the duppatta would flutter in her face and all you could see amidst the bright red, or orange, fabric were her nose and lips. That image makes me reach for my computer and look for that kind of image, duppatta fluttering over face. A timeless beauty prevalent only amongst women of subcontinent. All possible combination of dupatta with face, face hawa duppatta, chehra and duppata yields nothing. Switched dupatta to aanchal and searched web. Immediately a model named Aancal shows up in skimpy wear (which I didnt mind at all lol)! Switched from picture mode to web site searchs and voila a website shows up. Now I am not going to name the website but two things catch my attention. Its name is Aanchal and it is a Pakistani website. Aanchal and Pakistani? Doesnt exactly surprise me but perhaps still does. Pakistani girls are, generally speaking, more of an Indo-phile than their male populace. Probably more true for overseas crowd but also true for some Pakistani locals. Start browsing around and it is a website of female members mostly. It is awesome to have a day off and just lazy around looking at how girls from a different country may look at things. Mostly it is about beauty nushke, bridal wears, mehendi etc. Some on shayari. Very little politics and religion. It is apparently a magazine too. So maybe world is not so bad afterall. Aanchal is aanchal whether it is in India or Pakistan. And girls are girls wherever they may be. And Vaada na tod is still rocking a chap years after the hawa blew somebody's duppata in her face. xxx

That kind of beauty can still be seen in colleges in smaller towns these days. All I see around colleges in cities like Mumbai are girls in jeans and t-shirts. People from the west will never even know about this kind of beauty.

If someone from the south had written this, he'd probably have written about a girl wearing a half-saree with jasmine flowers in her long hair at a temple. BTW, Theres nothing indo-phileic about the word "Aanchal".Its also an Urdu word.

Something would be lost in translation, it could range everything from protective shelter of Mom's saree to the romantic shelter of a girl's dupatta. Take your pick. :winky: Lurker miyaan chaa gaye. Yes this female trait is quintessentially Indian subcontinental and as much as I like skirts and minis, the female gait in a saree, a churidaar, an Anarkali is a stellar sight. And without getting into Hindi-Urdu isnt it fascinating to see the similarities? Not too many languages can boast can speak of that connection. Personall, I dont see a difference..then again I am romantic of both languages..and women. xxx

Its the same as words like "Dil"or "Zameen" that are used in Hindi but are of Persian origin.

Very sweet no? :winky: And you are right it was not about video, I am not much video guy anyway, love lyrics more than music perhaps. In this case it is more about memories though. Thats a beautiful song too.
