We had a very good team then. Give us an in form Tendulkar, Gambhir, Yuvraj and perhaps most importantly Zaheer and then we have a batting line up that can chase down almost anything and post big totals of their own pretty much anywhere in the world. And with Zaheer a pace attack that is good. Right now our top order is fragile and bowling worse still.

the notion that a 5th bowler(simialr or worse thsn his peers) can raise the quality of your attack is totally fiction. 5 bowlers > 4 bowlers is also fiction.

I dont get it, youre arguing for Jadeja or Irfan at 7 but not for 5 bowlers. In my view either Jadeja or Irfan ARE the 5th bowler and I guess the 7th Batsman. Im not asking for a 5th specialist bowler, there is none. Im saying we can not play 7 bats inc Dhoni (so say a Tiwary instead of Jadeja) which I thought what youre asking for, and 4 specialist bowlers. You seem to be counting RJ as a batsman which is inaccurate, he is an allrounder. Esp at home where he is a containing bowler i guess. one good knock and suddenly Jadeja is a batsman, THAT has no factual basis or logical merit or cricketing sense. A lot to prove yet.

its not wise to think about things that are not going to win us matches. australia has 2 WCs with symonds ,lehman and moody and the thiord one with watson. ind has won a wc and a wc final.so there are far improtant things to winning in cricket than the narrow scenario of the 5th bowler. the fifth bowler is not going to win us matches or prevent an attack from getting thrashed.they won't make a major difference. so why worry about issue of lesser priority and weaken our vital strength is the question? imran's approach is "get in the matchwinners and fill in the blanks". it works beautifully.our matchwinners are 7 batsmen. so get them in and fill in the blanks. even while discussing for the 2003 wc, the same questions were raised. i am answering for the umpteenth time and tired by now

i assure you i am quite accurate. usually allrounders are stronger in one dept and weaker in one dept. jadeja is significantly stronger in batting while bowling is much weaker suit and as such can only qualify as a batting allrounder. he has potential only on the batting front to be a matchwinner. in bowling , he can be useful at times ,nothing more. for a reference, he already has higher average than shaun pollock,botham and kapil despite being a junior player at best . he is heading towards 30's already. bowling allrounders usually maintain lower standards. anyway i don't need these stats to idnetify a batsman or bowler.

We play more than 50% of our games in SC conditions. And if you include WI wickets which have become even slower than some Indian ones, that would go up to 60-70% around the world. Would you select a team for 30% of your games or 70%?
