Just like most Indian pacers --- who start off by bowling indippers and taking wickets -- like Bhuvi, Munaf, Umesh --- and then changing to moving outswingers or legcutters mostly and getting less wickets --- Shami has done just that too. I know the pitch had more bounce and more outswingers needed to be bowled. Dhoni's field placement of 5 slips also forced Shami to bowl outswings primarily. But Shami not bowling more than 1 or 2 indippers, the delivery which got him most of the wickets in the last test, was not a good idea. So , it was more intent than inability due to conditions.

He is predominantly an outswing bowler. Those indippers were due to reverse swing. His inswingers with new balls are mostly natural variation.

He has been bowling a lot of off-cutters with the new ball, in the last test match as well as the 3 ODIs he had played. This has been his main wicket taking delivery with the new ball, in all 4 matches.

Many of those were not intended inswingers.

I am talking about off-cutters, not inswingers. If you have read the article on Shami about how Shami struggled against all odds and came up -- his mentor had said that he always bowled a lot of off-cutters.

He does not mean anything else but those. You are talking those words a bit too literally.

What I am simply saying is, he did not bowl off-cutters deliberately today, when bowling against right handers. He did it against left handers though. He could have done it, but did not do it. Nothing to do with the conditions here. Today's pitch was quite favourable to movement off the seam .

I have never seen him bowl deliberate off cutters, only inswing and outswing and off the seam.

Finch and Watson got bowl on similar kind of deliveries which were conventional outswingers, but came back in after pitching rather than going away and surprised the batsmen. This is one good thing about upright seam. No one really knows how will it behave after pitching.

No one really knows how will it behave after pitching.[/quote'] It's natural variation nothing else,his has natural outswing with the new ball & lands in on the seam so has the natural variation which comes back in after hitting the seam.With the old ball he swings it in,can move it away too which is rare when u bowl reverse swing.He's better than Bhuvi & Yadav in my view....accurate,skillful & sharp enough to be effective.Sometimes fast when he lets it go.

OK he is definitely not the same bowler when ball is not reversing.. But his pace and that bouncer means he is still something very good... Well not special though..
